how big are 353 vs 382 cabin ?
looking for next boat.I was in a 2007 sunsation 32 SS tonight and realized the main U shape seat in cabin in too small for me to sleep there, by couple inches only, but port side is not even 4 feet long. So, 3 daughters and wife, it's too small of a cabin to sleep in there confortably... Since I'm looking primairly at Formula 382 ( I know my family would fit), I'm also considering 353.... Are they (the cabin) big enough to be able to sleep 5, comfortably, or if it is probably a little short / shorter/ too short, compared to the 382?

When I had the 312 I was dead set on a 353 as my next boat. I went to a boat show that had the 353 and 382 sitting side by side. The entire 2 hour drive home was about how disappointed I was in the size of the cabin on the 353. I felt other than the seperate head compartment, it was no bigger than the 312 and would offer us no additional sleeping space. (we also overnight with 3 boys). As always, get inside one and judge for yourself but that's my $.02

....and BTW: I found the stepped bottom 382's have slightly less head room than the older straight bottom 382's. I guess it's due to the stringer grid system in the newer hulls.

I'd have to see both and best of all, drive them both to see the difference. Some say 382 are more like a tank, while the 35 would more of a corvette ride...
not sure what I would choose without testing both... but not much ''sea trial booth'' available! |
here are the answers I got from Daryl Johnson from customer support at Formula directly...
for the 353: The lounge in the 353 is 45" wide at the forward end, 67" long and 54" wide at the aft end. The vberth is 16" wide at the nose of the boat, 72" long and 54" wide at the aft. For the 382: The v-berth measurements are taken without a mattress in the boat. The forward end of the v-berth is 14" wide, the aft end is 59" wide and it is 73" long. The mid cabin measurements are forward 43" wide, aft 53" wide and 68" long. Once again nice customer support like I always had... Thanks again to them! |
your 357 is 7" shorter than a 382 ... I would think you would be stepping down to a 353 .... the 353 is 2'4" shorter than a 357 .....

I was gonna chime in on this thread awhile ago, but I've said it all before...
virtually the same open or "living space" in the cabin. the extra 3' OA is split between the extra 18" or so of cabinetry in the cabin and... a slightly longer hatch and a little more cockpit floorspace between the back of the bolsters and the backseat. I can't count how many times I've chuckled when someone claims the 382 cabin space is soooo much bigger. The dimensions from Formula prove what I got tired of posting. |
I'm also surprised to see this! so a 353 could then fit my family!
