What can XR drives handle from the factory? I just talked to a guy with a Donzi 26ZX with a blown 502 mag @ 780hp on an XR? Seems way too high I would think...

The XR is rated from Mercury for 600 HP (Gas not Diesel)
Several boaters use an XR with higher horsepower some are succesful, some not Some people manage to break an XR with much less HP by simple abuse It depends how much torque you give to the drive and how hard. One big concern is full throttle when planing the boat This gives a lot of load to the gears and sometimes causes failure Thats the reason why we limit the torque up to 3700 RPM You cannot limit the torque above that RPM or you will never get the requested horsepower We upgraded our drives with Teague Platinum parts Teague warranties their Platinum XR Drives even on their 800 HP engines |
