311 Engine Question

Are both engines in a stock 311 "standard rotation"? What is actually different between a standard and non-standard besides the obvious rotation direction? Can you tell by looking at the cam or crank if it is one or the other?

If they are both standard rotation, how do I end up with counter rotating props? Is it in the outdrive somewhere?

Every twin engine boat I have had the engines rotation is standard, the drives are set up with left and right hand rotation.

Correct, rotation is contolled in the outdrive.

Some inboard 454's were counter-rotation. Mostly in big cxabin cruisers. I have a pair of 427 Ford motors from a Chris Craft and one of those runs backwards too. I don't think any sterndrive application Big Blocks run backwards

Right you are! Most older inboards had counter-rotating engines.

How about TRS drives, does the counter-rotation happen in the tranny or in the outdrive?

Bob ..... The Bravo drives will rotate in either direction ....to counter rotate one drive is in Reverse ..... seems its done at the controls ....where the cables are attached ....m

TRS are made right and left hand, the rotation is in the drive.
