311 Engine Question
Are both engines in a stock 311 "standard rotation"? What is actually different between a standard and non-standard besides the obvious rotation direction? Can you tell by looking at the cam or crank if it is one or the other?
If they are both standard rotation, how do I end up with counter rotating props? Is it in the outdrive somewhere? |

Correct, rotation is contolled in the outdrive.

Some inboard 454's were counter-rotation. Mostly in big cxabin cruisers. I have a pair of 427 Ford motors from a Chris Craft and one of those runs backwards too. I don't think any sterndrive application Big Blocks run backwards

How about TRS drives, does the counter-rotation happen in the tranny or in the outdrive? |

Right you are! Most older inboards had counter-rotating engines.
