382 Prop Question

What props are you running with 382, 500efi, xz drives?

That is my combo, and fully loaded with 2 people on board, I am only turning 4600-4800 drives are trimmed out to 3-4. When I trim out farther, I loose speed on gps. 3 seems to be best setting.

The boat has 28 bravo props that were on it when I got it. I am not sure if they have ever been worked.

I am told that I need to be turning 52-5400 rpm at wot.
3500 rpm - 50 mph
46-48 rpm- 66-68 mph

382 w/500 EFI's, I run 28" props on Bravos 1's and I turn 5300rpm's to get to 70-72 mph.

3500 rpm's = 40-42mph
3800/3900 = 45-47 mph

I have often wondered how 30" props would perform at midrange, but did not want to spend the money just to experiment.

I run 30P bravos or 32P bravos depending on where I'm going (obviously I have more than 500hp). With a full load of fuel, etc. on flat water I can turn the 30's 5,500 and get low 80's. Switching to the 32's in the same conditions gets me about 5,100 and close but not quite 80.....

The advantage is that at 3,400-3,500 the 32's give me 53-54, where the 30's are about 48-49.

Disadvantage is that the 32's require a bit more tab to get on plane and are more likely to "blow out" when getting on plane. (has never been a problem, but their is a difference)

BTW: You NEED to get the rpm's up. Have the props checked, those should get more rpm's. I bet something is wrong with them.

Does anyone know who you can go to that will let you sea trial props & performance before you purchase?
