How do you remove Kenwood Radio

I am isntalling a new headunit and amps
how do I remove the kenwood headunit
I see the two narrow slots in the bezel, but pushing in thin tin strips could not make anything come loose
any tricks to get to the wires runing between the amps in the closet to teh radiohead

I need details so I don't break anything :)

thanks

There is a Kenwood key that slips into the slots to release the catches. Don't remember what is special about it ... got rid of the Kenwood stuff years ago.

To reach all the stereo wiring, pull the fridge out. At least that how my 311 was ...

I replaced the kenwood head unit in my 382 last month......Reddog is right about the "keys". Mine were secured in the cabinet with the fridge. I also removed the frig to get the wiring run to the amps.....but I also added subs under the rear bench by direct wiring the 4 cabin speakers to the head unit and then using that amp to power the subs in the cockpit. While we were at it we managed to run an Ipod wire to the dash and mounted the connection plug there. (You might need to remove that big round piece in the cabinet above the frig for access...be careful, it's the antenna for the TV.

THATS what those keys are for. Sweet, just like formula to do that

I have two small amps in teh area above the frige
I plan to replace them with a larger amp. the rca's are there, jsut need to get pwoer to the new amp and of course change out the headunit

I have a JVC with IPod interface. trying to decide if I run with the interface, or use the RCA aux inputs for the IPod, and just control the IPod with it's own controls at the helm

I will prolly check out how well the JVC remote works, and if it does ok from the helm, use the IPod interface, otherwise line input.
I may put the IPod in the glove box if contolling it? the only place I dare drill any holes
otherwise hide it somewhere if the radio controls

do those keys just slide strait in the narrow slots? and you pull the DIN out? that simple?

thanks

I'm out of town at the beach so no pics but it was a B I T C H !!! we ran the mini-jack input wire up over the frig, then across the cabin just above the headliner. I removed the ash/gauge panel then had to drill a big hole to get access to where the wire was at. I had 2 switches under the dash that were re-sets for fuel flow meters that I no longer have hooked up. The Ipod mini-jack wire happened to fit snug right in that hole......If you can get the Ipod wire to the glove box I would suggest doing that instead.
