with scorpions
how can a 292 with scorpions run at 78 to 80mph when the motors are rated 350hp. the 6.2's are rated at 320hp and the boat only does 69 to 70. there is no way that 30hp can make up a difference like that.
|
Ratings are just that, ratings. The Scorpions were killer motors. We probrably sold as many or more 292/Scorpians as any Formula dealer and all of them GPS'd 78-80. These were great motors ,rated at 350, but actually way more. If you ever get a chance to run one,you might change your opinion. I actually had one that we did a lot of prop testing with, got GPS readings of 81 several times.Believe me or not,but they were strong during their day. High octane fuel and engine price killed them. Blue paint is expensive, folks were hesitant to pay that much for a small block.

when were the engines discontinued. also, why didn't formula provide another combo to get the 292 more speed. I have an 06, i put stainless marine exhaust and i don't thoink i gained any top end. should i install the latham steering?

Don't remember exactly, maybe 04? Formula had nowhere to go,292 is a small block boat,so the 320's were all they could offer

but I think it is a ski engine. |
I have talked with other 292 with Scorpion engine owners and depending on props they have a top speed of 76-79 MPH.

I have a 28ZX with scorpions and they run great. 79 on GPS so far. What props were they running on the 292's? And what way did they spin.
Thanks |

Thanks Higher speeds with 30" labbed Bravo One props. I think even 32" Bravo have been used but I am not sure ? Props are spinning out. Gear ratio 1.65:1 Personally I run std. 28" Bravo One props so I have great acceleration but lower top speed (72-75 MPH). I am considering trying higher pitch props, but I am afraid to loose mid range efficiency. Too high slippage in the cruising mid range and the fuel economy is gone, and the cost of gas here is app. 9.5 USD/gallon so I prefer low slippage :) What props are you using ? |
