Prop question on a 242 ss 454 330 hp
1 Attachment(s)
have a 242 SS 1988 with a standard 454 330 HP 1997
GenV. The prop is a Mirage Pluss 17, I know the prop is to "small" Ex.: 3200 rpm my speed is 28 miles My rpm is much higer then it is supposed to be, but I have never taken it higer then 4500 then I get aprox 42-43 miles. I have a lot more throttle to give but, I havent let the engine gone over the 4500 rpm. I am going to buy a new propp, but I am not sure what kind of prop either mirage P19, mirage P21 or bravo1 4 blade 20 My normal boating is 2-4 people some gear, I am not to stressed by top speed, but of course everybody want his boat to go as fast as possible. I would like it not to be to slow to plane, and have a good midrange preformance. So what should I go for?? |
Before you buy one try a 21 Mirage i would then go to a 23 Mirage. After that try a 22 4 blade bravo one. I had a 272 that i ended with 23 mirage.

I still run a 23P Mirage 3 blade now, reasonably good performance even when I had the 454mag in it..

A friend has a 242/330 combo and runs a 21 Mirage and gets 53/54 mph. I'd also try a 22 Bravo. Will definitely increase midrange speed. Another friend had a 242/502 Mag , went from a 23 Mirage to a 24 Bravo an picked up 5 mph at 3000 rpms

23 will be too much for the 330. Stick with the 21, you'll be happier.

Thirdbirds correct .... I had a 90' 242LS 330 b1 1.50 gears with a 21p ss mirage, hole, midrange, topspeed 51-52 good luck.

Hi Guys
Thanks a lot for all the replies, I am leaning to a mirage 21 I will tell you how it went when I have tested the prop :drink: |
Hey, I have a '89 242 SS with a stock 454ci 330hp package and I upgraded from a 19 to a 23 pitch and I am very happy with the result. 56.7mph @4600rpm on gps.
Oh by the way, I'm new to OSO and this site is AWESOME! |
