65 mph is what I've always heard. But, no first hand knowledge. Nice rig, show us some pics. These are fairly rare boats, if it's nice, it's worth having and keeping. You know what they say............. someday................

twin242ls that was the one. i took it out today 1st tme only saw 53 gps at 4500 rpm's? it was pretty rough 2 guys full tank of fuel i am expecting better speeds? i need to get used to 2 drives to trim. i have 23p props
thanks scott |
you shopuld see at least 60mph. I run 23p mirages and actually get my best speeds trimed all the way up. one guy(290lbs) quarter tank and 1-2 footers 68.5 gps. I also make about 330 per side, The big difference is I do not have silent thunder. this saves a ton of weight. I only have a teak platform and not to mention this puts the exhaust right out there.
Lose some of that fuel and trim it up in 1-2 footers and you should see the low 60's. If you have cleavers on it lose them. they give a good top speed but you loose cruise and midrange and Gas milage |
60-62 in a perfect world!

I had a '87 242-SR1 with twin 350 mags. factory rated at 67, but best I ever ran was 65. Boat needs a lot of trim to get it loosened up to run. Heavy boat that will run descent when it kicks up. Great package.
I would check the gimbal rings out. The alpha drives on them '87 weren't counter rotating, a tie bar was an option, and I've never seen one with external steering. If it doesn't have a tie bar, I would suggest adding one. |
thanks i will get a tie bar over winter.
