1990 242ss/LS
I am looking for an older 242. Approx 1990-1995.
Is there a difference in the hull between the SS and LS models or is it just the interior layout? The SS seems to have a lot more cockpit space. What kind of speed should I expect with a 310HP 454? Anything in particular to look for? I am not in a hurry to buy but I have seen some fairly good deals. Thanks CJ |

The 242 is a great choice for and older boat and can be found for a good price, 55mph is about what you will for speed. For a 24 foot boat it has a great ride.

where are you located?
|
Located in the Nashville area.
I saw a nice red 242ss listed on Boat Trader in New Hampshire. |
The add shows a clean looking red SS. Asking $13,900.
I have sent them an inquiry as far as hours and such. I do not believe it has a trailer. What should a nice trailer cost? |
I spoke with the dealer today.
Boat is one owner, retired couple. 750 hours on 7.4L. No trailer. I figure a trailer will cost about $3000. He says it is in very good shape for its age. |
determine which you like better, the SS has more cockpit room, the ls is better balanced with a nicer sunpad to lay out on and more cuddy room
|
Not shopping the 242 market in a long time that seems high w/o trailer, end of season, and 750hrs. That puts you around $17k total before any rebuilds, etc. For not much more (maybe no more?) you can get into a 272 and some 311's - maybe that's larger than you want, but I'm just stating the facts on the prices. Maybe the 242's are doing ok holding value?
|
242's are priced from 10k to 20k depends on the boat the SS is generally around 10k, unless mint with the LS following around the 15k, when I was shopping I was looking at mint for 20k a few times willing to pay it

Hey waterluvr! I may have what you're looking for. I have a '90 242LS with a low-hour custom motor (615HP) and the drive to handle it. I am stepping up to a larger boat. Better yet, I'm in the Nashville area. I'll check back to see if you're interested.

It's either in "very good shape" or it's not. |
ChewyMalone,
I was really looking for stock power but would definitely entertain looking at some photos. Thanks Christopher |
The power plant is the picture in my avatar. It's naturally aspirated and built with quality parts. I also have a Bravo X drive with Imco XR lower on the boat. It's quite a step up from the stock power (and much more fun). I will be listing it next week.

I will look for your listing. Is it going on BoatTrader.com?
|
I haven't listed yet because I need to take some better pics this weekend. Here's a little about it...
1990 Formula 242LS, 615 HP motor built in 2007 by White Performance (Kingsport,TN), Bravo X upper and Imco XR lower installed 2008, new upholstery in 2005, dropdown bolsters,Extreme Marine swim platform, GPS speedo, CD w/amp and sub, Eagle trailer. Top speed I've seen on GPS is 70.1MPH. It will cruise effortlessly all day at 50-55MPH. I originally had the 454 mag (365HP) motor. The top speed I saw on GPS was 54.5MPH and it was a struggle to get it to run 50MPH with a few people and a load of fuel. Here's my number if you want to see the boat 615-477-3540. Or you can give me your e-mail and I'll send some pics. |
