271 Cabin water leak
 

Hi guys,

Only had the boat for a month or so.
When I took possession, the cabin carpet was wet and didn't really dry out. I assumed it was from rain during a long tow.
I vacuumed it out and used the boat 5-6 times then it was
parked on the trailer for a week.
The carpet is wet again and there is water in the small bilge under the step into the cuddy.
The obvious place to look would be from the skylights/vents but none of the seat cushions are wet and the headliner is dry.
The storage cover covers past the base of the w/sheild so it shouldn't coming around the windshield.
The portipottie and fresh water pump compartments are dry.
The water didn't drain out of that small bilge on the tow home either which is odd[there is no plug in the drain either]

Any ideas where the water is coming from and why the bilge didn't drain?
Where does the forward bilge drain to? Engine bilge?

i had the same problem for about a year, ended up finding a bad design for the drain hole in the anchor storage on the bow, the, drain is countersunk and recessed with a little flange sticking up about a 1/4 of an inch, ended up running a beed of 100% sylicone around the drain flange and it never leaked again. 312 fastech

271 has no anchor locker, but thanx for the reply.
boat is in storage now.

could be a leak in the fresh water piping, but the water in the bigle is clear and it appears the previous owner has rv antifreeze in the fresh water tank.

oh well, i'll fiqure it out in the spring.

Okay this is something that happened to mine and I found it on a friends formula also.
Same problem getting water under the step and couldnt figure from where then I notice a wet spot on the keel right under the step.
If I didnt have bottom paint I never would have noticed it, but with the black paint I could see a damp spot.
Checked it out and it was a hairline crack!
Cut out floor and when I put the boat in the water it was fine but get up on plane and water would start seeping in.
Ground out the crack and reglassed that section of keel and its been fine ever since and no more water.

I have an issue I am trying to figure out. Mine is a 98 271 with a step bottom. I have water coming out of the plugs that are under the step. Anyone have seen this or know of this issue? Thanks

When your boat is on the trailer water will run forward from the engine compartment to the cabin. When you clean the engine compartment put two corks in the pvc in the forward cabin to stop the water. It won't happen if you are on a steep incline. My driveway is flat.

now, that makes sense....
but there would need to be aot of water in the main bilge to flow up to the cabin level.

only had mine in the water once this year and cabin bilge was dry when i got home, for a change.
I pulled the stern plug at the launch, there was a fair bit of water in the main bilge, that's something else again....

Hello All!
I have a 47' Founatin Lighting and I also get lots of water under the steps. So as it sound it's not just Formula boats but Founatins too have this problem. I have not found where this water is coming from but I'm not giving up, I will find out if anyone has any tips let me know
