speed 271 Fas tech
 

Hello all!

I want to buy a Formula 271 Fas Tech with a 496 HO, who can tell me how fast this realy goes?? i hear a lot of different stories.....
Also do i need Trim tabs or can i live with out?

My guess would be low 60s. Tabs would be nice for getting on plane, but not necessary.

Low 60's. They slowed down a bit when Formula went to GPS speedos as standard equipment :p

Depends if you think your going to try to open the the motor up to go faster then by all means go with the k-plains you will never regret it they are the CAT'S MEOW ! " I have a 271 with a 540ci and would not be caught dead with out them". :evilb:

they´re just replacing an 496 by an Corvette
7 l and aprox. 550 hp.

Bad Influence

I guess its not looking to good for me. I just picked one up & the motor is at JC performance I thought with 500 hp i'd be close to 70

Ive got a 93 sr1 with a 600HP bravo xr runs low 70's

66 with an HO is prob all you will out of it. heavy boats. VERY well made.

Yeah I guess ride quality is more important than top speed

Or i want to buy a 271 Fas tech or a Nirdic 28 heat and i can not choose.
I there some body who can give some comments on this?

Nordic will be faster and thats about all they got on Formula, maybe some more flashy paint. other then that Formula is flat out better built and there fact support is second to none

I test drove a new Nordic 28 Heat a few years ago before I bought a 271 Fastech. The Nordic was a rattle trap. Lots of cheap plastic in the cockpit and it rode terrible compared to the Formula. I would agree however that given equal power, the Nordic will be faster. My 271 ran low 60s with a stock 502 MPI.

We used to have a Formula, may not be the fastest compared to competition, but are second to none in quality and solidness.

we are Dealer for Formula Boats In Essen, Germany and just 80 km from Venlo

we have a new 271 in stock that is now getting dialed in with its new engine

we change the heavy big block to a light weight small block fully aluminium- The engine is based on the Chevrolet LS engine, that is also used in the Corvette

It produces 550 HP and saves almost 300 kg (550 lbs) compared to a 496

on first trial we hit very quick rev limiter at 70 MPH , but I am sure the boat will run in the mid 70 `s when dialed in perfect with props and X Dimension

The X Dimension is now 3 `inch higher and the boat goes easy on plane - thanks to 550 lbs less weight
