353 500EFI speeds

Guys what are the "all day long" top speeds GPS on a 353 w/ 500EFI's XR's no ext boxes?

Magicfloat 12-05-2008 02:55 PM

80-82,depending on props.

5PMSMWHR 12-05-2008 03:18 PM

GT,

MF is right on the money, best I've seen on mine was 81.4 GPS. Are you in the market?

LV 12-05-2008 04:51 PM

Well, i might be, just poking around, im all over the place as far as what i want. how do you guys like yours?

sidetracked502 12-05-2008 09:02 PM

i have a 2006 353 sport loaded up with gen., ac, tv/dvd, bimini top, and alot more with 496 HO's. it runs 70+, so what if u give up 10 mph, its all about comfort. and this boat has it.im thinking about selling it only because of a very sick family member and it wont get much use come summer. IM me if u want to c pics.

LV 12-06-2008 07:16 AM

Im suprized is sees 80 with 500's, not bad for a big heavy formula, so how do they feel at 80?

5PMSMWHR 12-06-2008 08:19 AM

The 353 at 80 is a calm predictable ride. My last boat was a Donzi 28zx that started to get squirrley a little past 70. The difference between a 70 and 80 mph boat has more to do with who you hang out with.

:drink:lol! So true.

I have a 353 with carb 500s, XR's and extension boxes, and I have seen 85 on GPS, but it will run a consistent 82.

5PMSMWHR 12-09-2008 08:26 PM

GL353,

If you're running stock 500 carbs, I have to throw the BS flag on your claim of 85 GPS.

Rodney 12-09-2008 08:42 PM

Please help me out.
I have 353 -2006 with 525 EFI----Best I have go is 79.5 on GPS. This was with Full tank and 3 guys in boat. Please tell me what props you would recommend for top end. I have 4 blade now not sure of pitch. I was told boat has seen 83.

I would not throw the BS flag. I looked at my old records that go way back. Jeff Layton,Decatur,Al had a 353 with 500 carbs,Stellings boxes, and lots of prop testing by he and I.Consistant 82 GPS,flash readings of 84-85. Over the years we have seen a lot of speed variations on 353's that we could never figure out. Sold one last year with 525/ITS,struggled to hit 78/79. Go figure

jkelly 12-10-2008 09:32 AM

I have a 353 w/stellings, xr drives, 500hps 30 pitch bravo 1's and top-end is 80. when I had bravo 1 (not xr's) outdrives with the same set up my top end was 81.9 GPS. This was with a half tank of gas and 3 people on fresh water. my prop slip is near 19, so I am going to try 5 blade, 28 pitch Maximus props next spring. If that doesn't do it for me I am going to try drive spacers.

Coming from you MF, I withdraw my flag. If I was into 525s not breaking 80, I'd be depressed bordering on annoyed.

Well, I'm not sure about everything with the motors being stock, as the carbs may have had some work, because it loads up quite a bit. I bought the boat last summer from a guy out of Fort Worth that said that he had done a few minor things, and that the boat would outrun most stock boats alike. The GPS doesn't lie, so throw whatever flag you want. :ernaehrung004:

Rodney, I'm almost positive that Formula is putting 28 pitch 5 blade Maximus props on new Formula's with that power plant.

Let me know how the Maximus props do for your speed. I have the same boat with 30 Bravo Ones, XZ drives and have seen 75+ at best.

353 Speeds

Thanks for the feedback. I will look to see if I can get these on soon and let you know. We have a run New Years Day.

jkelly 12-12-2008 08:02 AM

Rodney,
Call Brett @BBlades he has an excellent demo prop program and you wont have to spend the big bucks to try different props.

Magicfloat 12-12-2008 11:39 AM

Fastest 353 with 525's and Stellings boxes that we have sold is an 04 .We wound up with Merc labbed Max 30's. Actually they are at Brett's now being freshened up.Brett has all the specs, maybe he could build you a set like those. This boat was shipped wih 4 blades and after a lot of testing we wound up with these. They were the first pair of Maximas that Merc labbed, according to Brett.
