02 292 Fastech Bow Light Replacement?
Last summer as I was tied off a back of a friends boat, the line pulled out of the chock and got snagged on the bow light thus breaking the cap which sank to the bottom never to be seen again. The base is still attached.
Don't really drive at night so I never replaced it last season. Just wasn't in the budget, but I entend on replacing this year. I plan on replacing the old Aquasignal series 20 Bi-color bow light with a chrome LED light that I found online that I really like the look of. Does anyone know how big the hole is under the base of the old light. The boat is covered right now and I would like to order sometime soon. |
The hole is just big enough for the wires, and one small one on each side for the mounting screws. If your new light is at least as large as the original one, there should be no issue.

Thanks Magic, I thought that was the case. I looked into replacing it for the same AquaSignal series 20 model, looks like the newer model only has one screw now. If I'm correct the AquaSignal is 2"W by 2.5"L by 2"H. If this happened once it could happen again. So I'm looking into a sleeker more low profile light that is 2" round by 1"H. I'm thinking it should work. Plus the newer 292's come with a chrome/SS/Nickel bow light, but the new one won't cover up the 2 existing mounting screw holes due to the fact the light tampers back. I thought I might as well modernize my old bird a bit.
Magic- can you also tell me how big the southco latch on the 292 anchor locker is, I believe it's 2" or 2.5" thinking of swapping the current white one out for a chrome, add a little bling to the bow. I will post some pictures when |
Looks like 2-3/8"

Very good, Thanks Magic

Have you looked at the ones that are flush mounted? They pop up. You'll never have to worry about that anymore. They run about 100.00 so not too bad. They certainly look good and are LED. I have had them on the last two boats and plan on putting one on this boat before Spring. I think you'll really like them. And, no more stubbing your toe on the light.

I have looked into the flush mounted lights. I'm trying to keep costs down a bit this season, due the fact that I'm being laid off sometime in May/June, so $100 was about $50 more then I was willing to spend. I found a nice clean chrome bi-color that's only about an 1" high. The light is all the way at the bow, never stubbed my toe on it, we never board from the bow so I don't ever see that being a problem.
I started work on removing the old light's base this weekend. Already ran in to a problem. The two screws that secure the lights base won't come out. I loosen them but the get to a point and they just keep turning. Does anyone know if they are end in place by a nut or if it's just a screw. I didn't want to have to pull the cover off but I think I might in order to look in through the anchor locker to see if I can access this. Or I could just cut the heads off the screw and push it through. Second issue, I thought that there would only be 3 holes. Two for the base screws and one where the wires come up through the deck. After removing the base I now see that there are 5 holes. There is one inbetween the two base screws that was for the lights cap and there is another at the front of the light. Don't ask me what for, it's not even all the way through the deck. It's about a half inch down. Good news is that I made a template of the base of the light I am looking to get and it looks that it will cover all the current holes, barely though. So I'm crossing my fingers, it should be here in a few days. |
