Replacing Impeller?

As spring conditioning quickly approaching replacing the starboard impeller is one of the jobs at the top of the list of projects that need to be done. (Port side was replace at the end of last season) The motor isn't overheating at all but personally think impellers should be replaced before every season or at least inspected.

My question is should the brass housing be replaced as well? I know usually if the impeller goes it gouges the chit out of the housing as well. Any rule of thumbs if you replace the impeller you replace the housing as well?

Brass housing?? Or is this a Jacobs pumps? maybe a crank mounted? or it must be an old school pump...the new rebuild kits (From Merc anyway) come with replacement rear housings....made of plastic.

to be honest I don't know what is in there. I guess it would be smart to take it apart first. I was thinking along the lines of just replacing the impeller and not the housing.

if you do indeed have the "steel" housing that used to be standard on the merc pump and its in good condition then absolutly just replace the impeller....the brass i'm not sure about
