Need a Silent Thunder swim platform.

Well, long story short, the silent thunder swim platform on my buddies 1988 357 Formula is in need of so much fiberglass work that its prob. better to just replace it. Just seeing if anyone out there has a good one to replace this one. Color doesn't matter, since the platform will need to be painted with White Imron. If anybody has one, please let me know. My friend has a brand new, never installed silent thunder for a 311 and it doesn't fit, so it looks like it has to be a 357 model.

Thanks!

I am seriously toying with the idea or swapping mine for an aluminum one and doing thru-hull......

If you do, let me know if you want to get rid of your old silent thunder. I would like to find one within the next 4-6 weeks.

I could help out with a S/T box, no full platform

Perlmudder 03-20-2009 12:04 PM

someone on serious just took theirs off the 242, I don't know if it would fit, but worth looking into

I just took mine off my 272, dont know if it will fit your boat? I will call my paint and body guy to see if it came off without damage.......I did cut out the first baffle in the S/T Box. Let me know if your interested

All the differnet models/lengths use different platforms, especially the 242 platfom, that's only a single engine platform. Bottom line is you need a 357 platform.

Keep looking, there are several guys here who over the years have removed the Silent Thunder boxes and installed aluminum platforms. Do a search in this forum section for Silent Thunder, you'll find some 357 owners who have removed them. Hopefully, they didin't trash them!!!

Hey Dave, how you doing? You getting ready for the season?

Sorry spazboz, didn't mean to hi-jack your thread. Don't know of a 357 ST, guy just took off the ST from my old 292.

Pulled her for the winter, yanked the power (sold) and transom assemblies and drives. New transom assemblies shipping this week, new 502's arriving shortly. Cleaning and painting bilge, new lighting, then she goes back together.

Cool Tim!!! That'll make a real nice package. Sounds like you'll keep the ship for a while. Good luck with the repower.
Pictures are always welcome!!!

For those of you that have removed your Silent Thunder Platform and going Aluminum... Who are you using to build or manufacture your aluminum platform? I am looking at trying to find a good aluminum platform without spending the big bucks! Thanks

I purchased mine on Ebay.. It supposedly came off a 36 Cig.... $500 bucks for the platform, $100 bucks for some welding work to set up the mount braces the way I wanted them... I'll be posting pics as soon as its painted and mounted. I'll be moving to OKC the end of June.... SR1kid what lake do you hit most of the time down there?

Most of us Tulsa boys run to Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. There is a great Formula following down here. I have a 272 and a 419.

On the platform issue, I bought my boat without a platform and was looking at aluminum. I have dry headers and didn't want to go with silent thunder. I ended up grabbing a teak platform from an old Trojan, redid it, and love it! I'll get some pics if you would like.

i never thought of getting an aluminum platform from another make/model of boat. We run at Grand Lake every weekend!

ZDEK- post up some pictures man, i also thought of a teak platform but wasnt sure if it would date the boat! haha

I'll get some for you - it really looks pretty sweet, I think.

There is a 1986 357 being parted out on craigslist detroit. Couldn't tell from the pictures if the silent thunder was damaged since there was a tarp over that portion of the transom.

Yeah the boat has been sold as well. I do have a 311 SR-1 platform that is busy consuming space in my barn I should probably get shed of.
