Saw a 419 Triple 500 yesterday!
Just moved to a new marina in Alameda, CA (SF Bay) and saw a beautiful 419 w/triple 500's in the dry stack facility. Since it was a stepped hull I don't think it is an SR1 model (those were standard V-Bottoms, yea?) so that narrows the model years.
Never seen one in person before, what a sweet ride (but I bet the fuel dock is a painful experience). Doesn't seem like a common Formula, not that there are many go-fast boats in SF Bay compared to other parts of the country. Anyone know how many they made, and how many years the 419 was available with the stepped hull? |
They started in 97 with the step hull, but I am not sure how long they made them, I think only 4 or 5 years, and only made 6 or 7 a year. I looked at a couple of them in the Ozarks and they are nice.

I believe they started in 1991 and finished on 2002. Fuel actually is not that differnt from a 382. I get approx .9 miles to the gallon with mine.

Damn...Now they have it on display for sale (the ad says $129k, at the marina it is marked at $125k).
http://www.johnbeeryyachts.com/brokerageframe.html The spec card on the boat says '80+ MPH, which I can believe with triple 500s. But are we talking 81, or 87 MPH? I'm falling in love with this boat, but maybe a 382 is a better long term choice, as their is one less engine\drive combo to break. |
in my opinion that 3rd drive takes the stress off the other 2, but yes it costs half as much more to maintain.

Trips2Win, what is your top speed? Please include prop sizes, carbs or injected, lake or ocean, mods, etc. Thanks.

The 419 is built differently from the rest of the FasTech boats. The 1998 catalog boasts that "Formula's new fiberglass structural grid is utilized in the 312, 353 and 382 FASTech's." Does this mean more wood in the 419? Honestly, being a 382 owner......I have never felt the need to update to the 419. The 419 weighs 13,100lbs dry while the 382 is 10,450....almost 1.5 ton difference. The cockpit and cabin area are nearly the same size between the two boats.....the rest is used for the third engine. Although.....there has been more than one long day when I wish I had that third engine! :D
