I think that Clarion is your best bet in your boat due to Moisture reasons. Ams and such need to be in a dry area. If you choose good quality Marine speakers you will be ok with any water that may get on them. I like Babbs for most aplications

Does Clarion have the anti skip in check? My deck is mounted in the cabin so hopefully I want have any real moisture problems. Any suggetions on where to put a amp?

I have a 242LS too- I mounted the amp just aft of the sliding plexiglass door on the inboard side of the port sidewall. That is about as close as you can get to the battery and/or switches (important!). It is relatively easy to wire forward to the port mounted galley where the head unit is, as well as the speakers mounted in the face of the aft bench seat.

Thanks jafo, are the speakers you using in the aft bench seat marine type or standard? Do marine speakers hold up to the higher watts?

jrocket- I'm using marine speakers throughout. Quality marine speakers will handle what you can throw at them (within reason). Don't go cheap with speakers- you get what you pay for. AudioFn is the guy to talk to about this- I got my Clarion sub, and 6x9 & 5 1/4" Babbs from him. The quality of sound from these speakers is beautiful regardless of the type of music you listen to. Babbs are pricey but.........  :D

Jafo has it pretty well said. I like the Babbs for what I consider Entry level speakers. They are totally water proof. Some do not like the look of the grill but I think they look fine. The sound is unreal and they do not require a lot of power to run loud and clean. They will handle a good amount of power if you want to toss lots at them. If you have a unlimited budget then go with the Allumapros and watch out. But the price will be MUCH higher then the Babbs.

Jafo I am glad you like the stuff you have.

I mounted my Alpine amp inside the cabinet with the stereo. I mounted it to the wall which divides the cockpit and the cabin. Works pretty well and easy to wire.
