Formula Letter removal
 

What is the best way to remove the formula letters? Once off how do you reattach them. Or am I going to have to buy new ones? I'm in the process of wet sanding and buffing my hull and I need to get these off.....

They'll come off with heat. Careful though, they're plastic. A hair dryer will supply enough heat. If you use a heat gun, keep it on low. Once off (and it will take patience) get the two-sided tape off the back of the letters with more heat. Finally, a little alcohol and/or "goo-be-gone" type adhesive remover will get remnants off the hull. Go easy, if they're over any paint you need to be very ginger with the solvents. A little alcohol again to clean everybody up. Get some good quality 3M two side tape at an auto parts store, cut it out nice to fit each letter and stick 'em on.

If you are working on paint I would stay away from the "goo be gone" or "icky stickie" like products, some will disolve your paint, some can even soften the gel. Best bet is to go to an auto supply and get a paint safe adhesive remover that would be used in an auto body shop. They are ment to remove the residue and not damage the paint, won't hurt the gel either.

No offense Bird, I've just seen some of these wonder products really screw chit up.

No offense taken. Any tips are good tips. However, I have used "goo-be-gone" and it did not affect my paint. But, I used it sparingly and nuetralized it with alcohol quickly.

Many time you can just rub the sticky residue off with a finger anyway.
