Fuel Vent problems

I am having difficulty filling up 2000 382. The pump snaps off when trying to fill to quickly. This exact problem happened on my buddies 98 382 and was never corrected. I know this is a venting issue, but is this some sorta design flaw that I need to correct or is it just a great place for critters to nest and I need to clear the tube.

The boat came out of Texas if that helps.

Thanks

The first thing to do is make sure the fill hose is more or less downhill all the way to the tank, and that the vent line runs above the fill line. Ensure that there are no dips in the vent line that may be trapping fuel. You may even want to lift the hoses up at their lowest point (they should be ty-wrapped together) to see if any fuel is trapped in the line.

Sometimes, turning the nozzle one way or the other when filling will help, too. I've heard of some guys filling their tanks while holding the nozzle upside down.

Good luck!

I had the same problem at frist, but I found that by experimenting with the direction of the nozzle as well as how far I put it in, there was a way to fill it up wide open.

And yes - this works with my better half, too....

Good one Chuck!!

My tank fills OK , but my gauge always reads full. Am I correct in assuming that it's a ground problem?

Every Formula Ive owned did the same thing when fueling. There have been posts on this before. I think the best way to solve it is to turn nozzle upside down while fueling. Be sure to put your hand over the vent to feel for flow. There should be a fair amount of pressure coming out. Good Luck, Mark B.
