502 Maintenance
I just had an engine failure with my old boat and I want to be diligent with the Formula, 95 271 502 b3
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...ssue-long.html The boat runs perfect and is spotless and if I believe the dude I bought it from, it was well looked after. It has 500 hours and I don't have service records. Are these things prone to valve spring failures like some of the high output big blocks. Any other age/hour specific issues I should be aware of. I' m would rather do maintemance to prevent failures than fix failures, as most of us would. Fill me in guys. My poor old boat, had it out for a sea trial with a buyer and his wife[usually the decison maker] and they loved it, on the way back to the dock, stopped and opened the hatch and it had blown the dipstick up and pucked a bunch of oil in the bilge. Did a compression test last night and found plug with no electrode and zero psi in # 4. Oh well, such is life |
Bummer on the "old" boat. As for the 502, I am not aware of any quirks. I had one in an 87 Sleekcraft and it was a solid motor. Just do the regular maintenance, oil, plugs, wires, water pump, winterize, etc.
