repowering 292

finally bit the bullet and pulled engines ( 6.2s) on my 292! I ordered edelbrock 200cc e-tec heads ARP head bolts crane hr cam #109831 222in 230ex 509ilift 528elift with 1.6 rockers. I plan to install on stock bottem end witch is fairly strong forged crank powder metal rods 9-1 compression. I have been told that stock injection is restictive but I mit try it to see how it performs. I my switch to carbs I will post results as I go.

I would add som,e headers or at least less restrictive manifolds first...EFI is so much more efficient and (usually) more trouble free. You can alwys increase injector size if you think you need more fuel...

I already have revolution marine exhaust manifolds. I was told fuel is not the problem it is the intake will not flow enuff air?

Sounds like a fun project! Thanks for sharing and keep us up to date. Post some pics if you can. As you can see, I have a vested interest...:drink:

How was the swap to RM manifolds? Did you notice much change in performance?

Well I have one motor assembled every thing fit very well. I added 7 qrt pans. I decided to keep the stock injection and see how it runs. I needed to port exhaust manifolds to match larger edlebrock exhaust ports. Hopfully test drive sunday if every thing goes right!!

That's great! Good idea on the higher capacity oil pans. Looking forward to hearing how it runs. Post some pics if you can. What springs are you using with that cam? What rocker arms? Do the stock valve covers work with that set-up? Did you have to port match the intake to the heads? Sorry for all the questions...Good luck dialing her in!:drink:

I am running edelbrock valve springs #5767 with 1.6 alum roller rocker arms self aligning narrow body from Jegs. They fit good under cast alum polished center bolt Jegs valve covers. I did not port intake. Intake ports are smaller then ports on head so I thought it would not help much unless porting complete intake witch is cast iron very heavy and hard to port fast. I would like to up grade complete injection when I have more money to spend. I think factory rev limiter at 5200 will be one low side for my cam and heads if injection will flow! I just hope it runs ok with up grades right now. Time will tell!

Well factory injection does not like my new cam and heads. Motors run great to about 2500 rpm when they seem to get a lean pop through exhaust with out being able to adjust fuel pressure or timing I am going to scrap injection. I know it could proubly work with custom tuning but Im not intrested to stick money in restictive injection. Ordered carbs and intakes. I can always upgrade to fast injection from carbs in future.

Had first test ride with new power and am very happy! Its like a different boat! pops on plan at 3/4 throttle, accelerates alot better, ran 78mph in not perfect conditions at 5600rpm. A little more prop some final engine tuning should run 80+. The boat handles great at 78mph very little chine walking and I was running 0 tab and alot of trim! 292s like more speed alot more fun to drive with more HP

Congrats! What carb and intake did you end up going with? What props? I would love to see some pics!:drink:
