Mechanical Trim Indicator Cable
Hey Guys,
I have a slight problem with my port side Bravo 1 drive's indicator. The gauges are Kiekaffer (I think that is how you spell it) and they are mechanical. There is both drive and tabs on the same gauge. My port side only reads to 1.5/2 maybe. Where the starboard side works just fine. I talked to a buddy of mine and he said look for a number stamped on the outside of the "jacket" of the cable and it will give the length and diameter of the cable. I can't find this freak'in number anywhere. The colour of my cable is red that runs from the gauge back through the hull to the drive to a "ram" that sits in the inside of the drive if you are standing behind the boat looking straight at them. Does anyone know what I am looking for? I have a 1988 311 with Bravo 1 drives with 454s 330hp I understand there are different lengths and sizes for both sides. Anyone that could help me I would really appreciate their input. I am going on a 10 trip with boat starting Aug. 7th and I just want to get this figured out before the trip. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help on this matter !!!! Jeff |
Bye the way the cable has a slight bend in it just past the "ram" on the drive.
That is why I want to replace it. Thanks again !!! Jeff |
Jeff,
I have a new port side cable. Replaced my starboard a few years ago, port was ok then but I bought both. I need the port side replaced now, mine is sticking too. In any event, I'll get the cable length for you when I get home tomorrow (in Buffalo now). Axa hooked me up with the cables, we'll see if his source is still good. Not too expensive. Talk to you tomorrow. |
I had to replace all four of mine (drives / tabs). I didnt see any number on them when I pulled them out. My mechanic just told me to pull them out and lay them on the ground and measure the length. I beleive he ordered them from MESCO?....but dont hold me to that. I will ask the next time I see him if there is a standard length or cable.

Jeff,
PM'd you with info but I'll post it up here too. For the rest of you guys, these measurements are for a 311: Port side drive cable is 288 inches or 24 feet. Starboard drive is 244 inches or 22 feet. The numbers on the new port side cable I have are: 301947-03-288-60312 By the way, the measurements came directly from Formula, called their tech line. |

In any event. I replaced my port drive cable yesterday with the help of Pachanga Mike. Took a while between bouts of rain but all in all, it was fairly easy. Need two guys to feed it through where it goes. Mike helped me dial them in so they're more accurate than they have ever been. Fine adjustments are made at the plunger where it threads to the aft end of the cable. There can be very minor adjustments made at the indicator-end. Feels nice to have working indicators. My port drive indicator has been whacked for a while. Good to go now!!! |
