311... Removing pads from rear Hatch ?

Anyone remove the pads from the rear Hatch on a 311? The pad closest to the stern came apart at the seam ...Removed the Mirrors and all the screws and the pad still wont come out.... Looks like the Hatch hinge bolts might be the problem? Maybe there are just Lag screws thru the deck and 1/2" plywood on the pad? Thanks ...mike

I've pulled the hatch apart on a 312 and a 382. You have to dismantle the entire dam thing! I took it off the boat, flipped it over and removed the mirror, hinges, then the entire fiberglass "inside" had to be pulled off. If I remember correct there are screws/bolts under the inner liner that hold the padded section to the outside.

Yea we got it ........the hinges were bolted thru the hatch and then thru the plywood of the last Panel ... was hoping we could just restaple the edge that came loose. Appears in 89 they didnt use SS staples ......

Formula used stainless staples. If you've got rusted staples, someone has been there before you and THEY didn't use stainless.

Had a very similar situation with my 91' 292. Looked just like yours off......even stainless staples will rust.....depends if they came from China or not

I had to dismantle because the hatch hinge had worked loose. From your pics, your pads were original, same as mine. Not bad shape for an 89 IMO.

I pulled an 87' apart to repair and had rusty staples as well. That one was also original. Amazing how heavy that crap gets once its wet!

offthefront,

Unrelated, but what product did you use on your decking? I really like the color, and it looks to be doing a great job sealing/protecting. I need to do my deck this spring, and you have the color that I had in mind.

Appreciate any info.

Hey no problem .....took me a minute to figure out what in the heck you were talking about ....:drink:

It's made by "Flood" ... It has a primer and then the base coat ...It is what most of the comercial Dock people use down here ....this is called Natural Honey ....I could only find it at a wholesale Lumber Supplier .....This is one coat of Primer and 2 coats of stain ....used airless Sprayer ......m
