Just bought my first Formula

I just got rid of my baja and got myself a very nice Mint 1993 Formula 271. I was looking for some gear for it, as when I had my baja i had T-shirts, towels, keychains etc. But the formula gear site is pretty bad. Nothing on there really catches my attention and it all looks outdated. So does anyone know where I might be able to get some other formula stuff? Also, how fast do you think my formula will go? heres the set-up

single 502 MAG EFI
23 pitch prop
Bravo 1 outdrive (believe its a 1.5 ratio)

Im guessing/hoping at least 60-65 mph. My baja i just got rid of did 70 but it was built and had twins. Let me know if 65mph is realistic for that boat.

Thanks

Congrats. Try eBay for Formula goodies.

Congrats. I would think 65 would be the top, but it should be a great handling boat. See you on St. Clair!

thanks, its a pretty sweet looking boat and i dont think anyone out on st clair has the same one as me. This one has flame graphics on it. Ill have to post some pics. Im hoping to get 65 out of it, but yeah formulas are world class machines, everyone I've talked to just praises them.

Formula Gear

I agree with the formula gear its lame. Whoever is incharge of merchandising needs to scrap all that stuff and start over.

 65, Don't get your hopes up, Especially if its stock, expect to go 60 on a good day, had mine 2 summers, best is 58.8, its on the tired side I'll give her that but freshened up probally 63 ish I'm guessing, with the right conditions maybe 65, (keep a gas can handy) It will be a dog outta the hole, but she will ride great, has a sweet spot around 4000-4200 rpm where it cuts threw just about everything, We love ours, you will to, but its no speed demon, but build is second to none, there Formula gear isn't the greatest, frustrates the hell outta me, lol, it needs to be updated, they haven't lately, probally because of the economy, you will enjoy the economy of a single engine, post some pics!! heres mine also a 93

Had a 1995 sr 271. 502 mpi, 60 was all she would do. Installed a blown 540 hit 78 on GPS, hit some nasty rollers little wrong damn near killed myself.

Hey PocketChange

I ended up buying your old boat.

Contact formula. They will send you a free catalog. Their catalog has a lot more stuff in it than there website does. You might even want to register yourself as being the new boat owner.

Great Choice!

Congrats! You will never regret buying a Formula. Welcome to the family!

Nice boat!

My First Formula was a 302 back in the mid 80's. Since then many boats, plus friends with other brands. We got tired of poor quality, terrible rides, lack of factory help. Recently bought a 336 SR-1. SOOOOO glad to be back at the top! I forgot how great these boats are and quite sure I will never buy another brand. Certainly not the fastest, but close and the quality build and luxury plus unbelievable ride make up for the few MPH difference and then some at the end of the day.

Formula Gear:
Lame is a good word, and often geared towards models of which I have no interest.
BUT there is a solution.
If it is for personal use, buy whatever you are looking for and take it to an Embroiderer, who will digitize the logo and embroider for you. Towels, hats, shirts, leather products.
I recently had the "Bird, FORMULA and Performance Boats" done with colors i wanted on a set of towels, shirts and carry bag. Also had a couple of plastic plates about 2 inches tall, 8 inches long - engraved to cover a couple of screw holes etc.

I talked to Formula about some better stuff. Fell on deaf ears. Made my own.

There might be hope for "Formula Gear" in the future...

I recently (two weeks ago) sent an email to Formula complaining about the lack of selection in "cool" or "trendy" clothing and accessories available on their website for us Formula fans to flaunt our passion for our boats. I EVEN made the comparison of how much more product is available for "Cigarette Racing" fans than for "FASTech Racing" fans... :bigbird: (!)

I was pleasantly surprised to get a nice response from Scott Smith @ Formula saying that he would forward my thoughts to their vice president of marketing. He was honest about the reality of anything happening anytime soon, due to the current economy and prioritizing the allocation of resources as they made their way though the recovery... but he DID go on to say that he's sure they will add new items as soon as it is viable to do so!

After reading Scott's response and really thinking about it... I guess having Formula make it through what has no doubt been their most financially challenging time, and be there for us in the future, is more important right now than having some new "Formula Gear".... Just ask Reggie! :angry-smiley-038:
