Power Steering Cooler Leak 1990 292

Looking at a '90 292 for sale. Owner states only problem is that the port motor power steering cooler leaks, not bad but leaves some fluid under it. Is this cooler easily accessible to replace? Not familiar with it. The motors are 454 Mags. Any info greatly appreciated! Thanks

if its power steering fluid leaking just remove the system its not needed on the port motor . your steering runs of the starboard motor . all motor packages come equiped w steering systems on twin app it just doesnt get used the lines get conn together

its not always the cooler ,sometimes the hoses develope leaks with time, the rubber gets brittle and causes leaks

Maybe it was the starboard motor. The boat is 5 hours away so i havent looked at it yet, maybe it is a line, was just wondering how accessible the cooler is, the owner states it is the cooler.

http://www.mrcool.us/mercury-85152t.html is one of the part numbers for that engine after taking a quick peek.

After seeing handfulz28 post below this one, you have:

"454 Mag. Bravo 454/7.4L V-8 1988 - 1992 0B721206-0D805068

and need an 85152T. I looked at the pictures I have an he nailed it on the install as well. Don't know about the config of the boat. It's four hose fittings, two NPTs and a body clamp.

The cooler is not easy to get to. It's on the port/left side down beneath the engine mount/next to the oil pan. They're also a combo oil/PS cooler. Confirm the color of the fluid. If it's truly the port motor, it shouldn't have a belt on it so the fluid doesn't circulate. If it's the starboard engine, and it's definitely PS fluid (red), it might be a bad hose or clamp since it's a low pressure return line that goes through the cooler. But it could be a hard line leak at the steering rack also.

On a '90 292, any of these things are going to be a b!tch to work on. Expect to remove the manifold to get easier access. And you'll probably be working over the back seat.

Talked to the owner it is on the starboard motor. So must just be a line that runs over there, an easier fix I am guessing? Hopefully goin to look at the boat soon.
