Ok, so here's a good one. Did you ever ponder a thought several times and think: "This is a BAD Idea?"
But then after it's done, you say "Damn...That looks good!" That's how this kinda went..... Not a big fan of any modification that can't be put back to stock without a whole lot of messing around, so when my "Stereo Guy" tells me we got to cut a hole in the boat to install a properly sized sub woofer box....Well, holes and boats don't mix. So we compromised and here are the results. 1 - Remove the passenger bolster seat. 2 - Install an aluminum tool path template with 2 sided tape to the port gunwhale and cut a 17" x 15" hole. 3 - Take the piece of fiberglass to your local waterjet. 4 - Have your "Stereo Guy (Chris)" build a custom 2 piece 1.7 cubic ft ported woofer box. 5 - Assemble and install this box in the gunwhale...Real fun! |

So you can kind of get the picture of what I had in mind, right? Re-use the fiberglass piece as a grill. So my "Water Jet Guy" cuts out the Bird...We install a strip of aluminum on each side of the hole after the box and sub are in (we used Nortons speed grip) and tap 6 holes for the mounting screws and done! A grill with Birdattude!

You sure are paying close attention to the details! That boat will be fantastic when you are done. You must be pumped.

So did you get your amp repaired...kind of sounded like all show and no go when I seen it last??:drink:
|
I have the Amp in hand! The plan is to put it back in this weekend! My stereo guy sent it out on Tuedsay and hand it back on Monday! Kudos to Memphis Audio!

How did I miss this thread until now......even though I sold the 382 earlier this year I've got a couple pics to add.

Here is the dash when I bought the boat.....note the compass was removed and the GPS mounted on starboard where it once was (have to be able to return it to "stock")

Steve at Innotech did my dash in 2009...needless to say I loved the way it turned out. I also found the distributor that imports isotta wheels....got a great deal on that too. With new bezels but re-using my guages I only had about $700 in the entire dash project.

went another route with adding speakers but it worked nearly as well. I simply removed the factory panel beside the rear bench, made a larger one using the same lines from starboard, then covered it in factory vinyl. mounted it the same way the factory mounted it so the original panel could be replaced (hiding a big azz hole where the speaker magnet goes through fiberglass)
The subs are simply cut out of that starboard panel and can easily be removed and a new panel installed. |

We overnighted quite a bit and wanted hot food.....added a microwave. (this is without the trim panel around the unit)

going back the the 312 I had.......not many modifications but permanent AC was pretty cool :). Removed the porta potti and installed the unit there. Had to make new panels for vents and controls on one side. Installed 2 discharge vents with one blowing towards the front "V" and installed the controls on that side as well.....didn't even need to get out of bed to adjust the temp!!! The rest was just used as storage space on top and the right "cubby hole". (the new owner has had the boat 5 years, never spent the night on it or used the AC)

What is in that massive "box" you added on the left (port side).
That massive box really isn't that large. It houses the air ducts and controls. Since I had to make something to hold all that I made it larger so that I would have some storage space in it and on top of it too. The "box" is flush with the lower portion of the "glass" divider that sticks out the furthest. It sticks out at the top by about 8 inches and wasn't in the way at all when sleeping on the boat. I added a pic of the AC unit itself where the porta potti was. |

Dash Before
http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a2...D550/ry%3D400/ Replaced stock Gaffrig 8k tachs with 6k tachs Removed depth finder Install stereo remote where depth finder was Removed speedo Fabricated custom gps mount for existing speedo guage hole Drilled hull and installed thru hull transducer for garmin, came to find out that was not needed cause the liner in the bilge comparment was solid with no voids, transducer could have shot thru....this hull was 1.25" thick at transducer location. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a2...D550/ry%3D400/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a2...D550/ry%3D400/ Does not look 1.25" thick but I can post up a shot of the plug for the nonbelievers. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a2...D550/ry%3D400/ LC |
1991 242 Anchor Locker
I added an anchor locker in the bow of my 1991 242SS.
Here are a few topside photos, plus a 'before' and 'after' photo of the V-berth. http://home.comcast.net/~tpenfield/W...hatchdone2.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~tpenfield/W...anchorsin1.jpg BEFORE http://home.comcast.net/~tpenfield/W...s/vberthb4.jpg AFTER http://home.comcast.net/~tpenfield/W...eriortrim1.jpg It has been a great addition to the boat and anchoring is soooo much easier. Here is a link to my project page for more details: http://home.comcast.net/~tpenfield/W...or_Locker.html |
I love that tp it would make anchoring so much easier. Nice job.
