382 vs baja 40 and sonic 38-42 opinion

baja 40 triple 500 efi 76-78 mph
sonic 38 or 42 twin 500 efi don't know the speed
formula 382 twin 500 efi 75- 77 mph

speed is not the number 1 issue
cabin is important (able to stand)
gas: triple scares me a bit

on the other hand, would'nt a twin 500 at 45-50 mph, burn as much as a triple at the same speed?

I heard about 40 baja cracked on the bulkhead for unknown reason... true or false?

what is your opinion ?

thanks!

Don't think I would want triples! Not only due to gas consumption but everything that you do to the engines and drives is x3 (oil changes, top end maintenance, winterization etc., etc...). Also I think triples are becoming 'white elephants' as with the big power that you can get from engines anymore, you only need two to equal triples. Triple engine boats are priced really low for the above reasons and would be tuff to sell when you get tired of it. Do they even put triples in new boats anymore?

Yeah, you're wrong. It's gonna chew a whole-nother engine's worth of fuel, no doubt about it. I said the same thing when I went from a single BB to twins.

"Don't worry Dear, these two engines will be working much less than the single. It'll only chew like half again as much fuel"

WRONGO!!!!!!

Yeah Baby!!!! I wouldn't care if I ever left the dock in that thing.

However, Sonics are big inside. And, they're nice, rugged boats. I love the walk-around deck, it's just smart and practical.

Yea .....Gas though ...not sure about that ...new 496's in 03 ...already 500 hours ...but I figure for a cruiser should be good for 800-1000 hours ....m

Is the Baja really an option? NO comparison to a Sonic..

trips2win 05-18-2010 10:01 PM

if speed is not #1 cabin height #2 and trips out for gas you need a 370ss or 400ss you can pack a lot of body's on em also imo

If you want to be able to stand in the cabin I don't think that I would consider the Baja. I would, however, look at the 38' Donzi's. They are a nice all around boat, with nice cabins.

jeff32 05-21-2010 08:08 PM

I looked at one but the U-shape seat in the cabin is too small to sleep there. I need 5 places to sleep... It's too bad because they do have a high cabin!

Nothing is perfect... got to see a 38 or 42 sonic... I don't know why but I feel like it should fit...

Nortec 39 V will give you speed and a big cabin. Not cheap but a perfect boat.
