Trailing a 382 question...

I'm selling my Hallett and looking at buying a 382 very soon and was making sure my truck had the capacity to tow the boat safe. I have a 2005 Chevy 2500HD duramax diesel with helper springs. Is this enough or is the tongue weight from the trailer require additional suspension equipment?

Thanks..

I have a single axel F250 diesel and installed Firestone air bags, they help keep the weight off the springs and disperse the load well.

We pull a 96 382 with a 2003 2500HD Chevy with a 6.0 . The D Max would be nice but the truck does fine.

I think you should be fine. I am towing a 353 Fastec with the same truck without any issues. The 382 is approximately 1000 lbs more. I would suggest you add electric over hydraulic brakes because stopping is actually more of an issue than pulling.

Good luck with the new boat!

I'm towing my 357 with a 2005 GMC 2500HD dmax with out helpers, no problem at all. Good luck with the new ride and post some pics.

I don't know what the towing capacity is on your 05. I tow with an 01 F250 and my 353 with aluminum trailer weighed in at 11,400 lbs. This did not include tongue weight wich was extremely minimal at the time... maybe 300-500 lbs. My point is, you could surely get a way with it but I don't think you'd be legal.

The legal tow weight of that truck is 13000.Even an aluminum trailer is probably 3000lbs so you are over even without fuel.
If you do use it at least get a class 5 hitch I changed my hitch on my dually the first week I had it.Was shocked at the weight difference between factory and new one.
Good luck with the new boat

Just pulled my 382 with my 07 Suburban 2500 with 6.0L and it pulled good to my suprise no sway and good power, the HD should do better. but it could use better brakes.

You will have no problem towing with your Duramax...you may want to change programing for a little extra pulling power...but not really needed.

send me an email I may know if a great 382 available.

I weighed my 382, steel trailer, gen, 200 gal gas, A/C & 1 spare tire. It came to 16100# My F350 DRW SD isn't rated to tow that much weight so I don't fill up until I get near the ramp. That's not to say that a 3/4T won't do the job, just that being extra careful is a good idea.
