Getting on step
Hi Guys, my 353 is equipped with 5 blades props and when I take off I get some cavitation before the boat get on step.
Is it vessel induced cavitation because of the shape of the hull? What the best way to get on step? Drives down and trim tabs right down? Thanks in advance for your advise. :boat: |
Drives down, tabs up. Roll in the throttles... you still will get alittle cavitation but it will pop right up.

Drives all the way in, for sure.
Tabs seems to depend on the boat. They create more drag, so I'm guessing you generally don't want to use them, but we had a 42' Eagle that was a B!TCH to get on plane and we generally having the tabs down helped bring down the bow. I would tend to think that the smaller the boat the less likely it would be that you should use the tabs to get on plane. |
Drives all the way in and about half tabs depending on load, works best on my Formula 336.

If you OVER tab, you will push the stern out too fast and blow the props out. I would take the advice from the above and start with little or no tab, then try different increments to see what works best for your boat. It will change depending on the amount of fuel and the rest of your load.

Thanks guys, ,,,,,,,,I tried today just putting drives all the way down and tabs at 3 and it was not to bad. Thanks for the advise about putting tabs all the way down.
I brought the rpm to approx 3000 rpm and watched to make sure it does not start to over turn (RPM) and it came out pretty good. When the props catch the water, it comes right out. |
