Installing AC/HEAT in 353

Has anyone ever installed AC in a 353 that was not installed from the factory.

Am I crazy for thinking there is a kit to do this?

I've installed A/C in a 312 and helped a bunch of buddies install them in (2) 28's, a 33, 35, and a 38. It's all custom work. Your best bet would be to find/study a 353 that has A/C installed and try to copy the set-up. (call the Formula factory, they might be able to give you some pointers)

not that hard really. Just follow the factory set up. Note** do not locate the unit in the engine room. I had a customer do that once. I actually made him move the boat to the street and remove the unit before I even touched the boat

Mermaid M5 5200 BTU unit. I have one in my 353 and it chills the heck out of my cabin. I live and boat in Arizona so that should be all the testimony you need lol. Mine was installed under the front cushion of the "U shaped" couch. I couldn't be happier. Supposedly it will run on a 1000 watt generator, but I bought a 2000 watter just to have more than enough.

Oh, I just realized you want heat too. The M5 is AC only, but I think Mermaid has a heat option. You'll have to look into it.

Sleek,

Did you take photos of your install? I'd like to see them. I always thought I'd like to do this to my 353 utilizing the thru hull fitting from the Y-valve. Didn't look too bad with the seats out for running hoses and electrical. Thanks in advance for the info.

axapowell,
I will take some pics and post them. Can't get to it until Wednesday at the earliest.

AXA, I can't get the pics uploaded yet. May have to have my account reactivated. I'll try again tonight or tomorrow.

I'd love to see these as well, I'm doing an install on the 303 this winter.

Sent an email to AXAPOWELL a few days ago with 5 pics. He said he would post them since I've had no luck posting on this thread.

PS. Dave I didn't take pics of my thru hull water pic up. I can do that, doesn't look cool but very effective with a faucet type primer on top of the pump to prime. I've only needed to prime the pump once at the start of the season and I trailer.
