38 speeds

Can anyone tell me real world speeds of a 2005 38 with a/c and gen?

t500hps 06-09-2010 07:37 PM

with what engines???

Mine with A/C, no gen, no boxes ran 82 any day and 86 on a good day........with 630hp 540's :)

jeff32 06-09-2010 10:22 PM

with 500 EFI with ext box they spin bravo 28, so I 'd say 75 to 78 mph... my guess.

Sick Nordic 06-10-2010 05:05 AM

525's

LAriverratt 06-10-2010 05:12 AM

guy here had an 04 382 with 525's , a/c, gen, and mercator as well and ran upper 70's on a good day. He did run a set of labbed props too. a guy form the north east bought the boat last year.

LAriverrat. I am the northeast guy who bought Martin's 382. Were you ever on it? The reason I ask is the best I've seen is 74 on the gps. And that was only once. Have not put the 5 blades on yet,but would think I would lose top end. Just curious as to how fast it has run. Of coarse Martin told me he never came off idle when we were negotiating.:lolhit:
BTW 74 full tank, 2 guys,no gear.71 loaded with fuel,water,coolers,gear,and 6 adults.

I have 500EFI's and I have never seen over 74 MPH. I am running 28" 4 blade Bravos and it turns to 5300 RPM.
I want to try 30" to get better mid range running speeds, I rarely push her to full throttle.

jeff32 06-11-2010 11:28 AM

why would a twin 500 efi spinning 28, run 74, and a 47 fountain (triple 525) spinning only 30 (only 2 pitch above) would run 90 gps?

gear ratio are different?

What is the gear ratio on those 500 efi formula?

I bet the gear ratio is the same. well........the Formula and Fountain have the same running length, and they probably weigh about the same! :party-smiley-004:

plus I'm willing to bet the Fountain is getting a few more rpm's out of it's motors. (does it really run 90?)

jeff32 06-11-2010 04:38 PM

no not 90 ! 91 GPs !

that's why I think drive ratio must be different to run 15 plus mph with only 2 pitch more...

anyway, does'nt matter! well... not that much!:drink:

Not comparing apples to apples at all. Different boat, more efficient hull and the real key....It has 3 motors and not two!

i agree! but still only spinning 30 !

even if you have 5 engines, if drive ratio is 1.5 and you spin 21's with 1000 hp each, if engines were made to run 5000 rpm, it is still gonna go at only 60 mph !!!

that's why I'm surprised of the speed differance for only 2 pitch above!!!

runafever 06-12-2010 11:41 AM

Hull design and X dimension play a bigger factor between the two boats. I think I kind of get what you are saying. I think you needed to expand on what you were saying.

The numbers have to come down to differences in slip. Also there could be a few hundred rpm difference between the two also.

That boat with 525's should see low 80's with the right prop. I have A/C, gen set and ext boxes with 500's and had BBlades work my 28 Bravo's with a lab finish and some cupping to get the slip down and just saw 80 GPS for the first time the other day under perfect conditions. Most of the time I can get a solid 75 GPS though.

I am really concerned, dont really want a boat that tops out at 75. The owner saysthe boat did 88 but i don't buy that. Nobody out there with 525s that can chime in.

Very simple deal here! Owner/seller says 88 mph, just show up with cash and simply say to him "Show me the 88!"

Likely never going to happen with that combo. I don't think a 353 can run that number with 525's.

bblythe 06-13-2010 08:36 PM

test drove one with 575s with small pulleys on blower low 80s

HP500's, Bravo 1 28's, Genset and AC, a few folks, fresh water and warm air.....75mph. HERE?
