PC 34 Shipping Question

I just picked up a PC 34 and I need to get it shipped to Michigan. The shipper is asking me if the radar arch can be removed and I told him I'd find out. I looked at the boat and if it does come off I don't see how. Anybody ever move one of these things???

yes

i work at a formula dealer, to take the arch off, need 3 people, one for each side of arch plus one for the top to help with the weight, it ways about 100 ish lbs, but it is vary lopsided offcourse, shrink wrap the bimini to the arch. To unbolt it remove to two side panals with a flat blade screwdriver, and remove the speakers on the arch, the wiring is on the starboard side, there is about eight or so connections, air horn, tv cable, radar, gps, lights, etc, (tip use shrink wrap type, to hole wires to fiberglass, you will be glad you did, when you put the arch back on), there are 4 nuts and bolts on each side, two are on ubolts with washers, back two are on nomovable stubs, you will need 3/4 deep socket to get them off. with one person on each side standing on the walkway, you will not fall off you, would have to pull the other guy in the boat to fall, with the third guy(highly recommended) to guide the arch over the windshield going thru the open windshield walk way and put it on the foredeck, on anything to protect the arch, we use foam blocks,, but anything simular would work, and strap it down, thats about it, just ask if you have any questions

I'm guessing the shipper is concerned it will be too tall and won't fit under overpasses or will snag a cable wire or something. I believe Michigan's limit is 13'6" maximum height, but either way I would hope the shipping company will know the height restrictions. If he has a really low trailer he can put it on you might be ok without taking it off?

Congrats on the new 34PC. FWIW, there is a 31PC that was shipped to my marina in MD from Michigan last year, and it came in with the arch still on, which is very similar to the 34PC. What year is the PC? On my 93', there is some access, while limited, on the starboard side through the storage door of the cockpit sink area behind the helm. On the port side, the only access I can imagine is just forward of the companion seat where the ice maker is, but you would need some lengthy arms to reach back to where the fasteners are.

I will look again this evening and snap a few pictures for you if that would help.

Good luck with shipping and congrats again on the new to you PC.

If your hauler has a low trailer you can make it if driver is careful.we have hauled 31PC's.370's and recently a 400ss with arch on.Removing and re-installing arch is a huge job that you should avoid if possible.Take off tv antenna, horn and anything else up there and you maybe OK.Depends on the trailer and the driver,of course.Personally I would try it,but it's your call.

There is ONLY one way to find out if the arch needs to come off. Put it on the trailer and keep your tools handy. The trailer factor is the key number. We normally take the arch down even going to shows it is not worth the hassle of getting a ticket. With guys that know what they are doing in don`t take that long....Capt. Steve :cool-smiley-011:
