Port alarm on my 311 keeps going off.
It happened just twice last year and I shut the motor off and started it up again and it stayed off. Last weekend when I was prepairing it for water the siren went off and no matter what I did I could not shut it up. The motors are running fine. I am wondering if I have both motors running if it will shut up? Maybe some one wired it wrong? I was on the hose but do not remember having this issue on the hose before. Other then that does anyone know how to disable it tell I can figure it out? Wire diagrams would be fantastic!
Thanks Jon |
Three things turn it on. Water temp, from the sender on the intake manifold. Oil pressure, from the smaller of the 2 senders near the oil filter mount. And low drive lube in the reservoir. Unplug each sender one at a time and see which one turns off the buzzer.

I had the same situation last year. In my case it was low on drive lube affecting the same sensor. Something you won't notice without taking a good look.

Sometimes when you change the drive fluid at the end of the season the drive bottle bottle empties. The float in the bottom gets stuck and thinks its empty.
But its easier to find some one with the laptop Mercury program.Been down the throwing parts at something. |
Do they have a sensor in the TRS drives? If they do then that is probably what is wrong. If not maybe the wire that would be used for a Bravo boat is shorting out? Does anyone know what the color codes of the wires are for each one?

Drive lube oil res. is where I have had my issues also. When the boat is on land it sits flat....but once you're in water it sits at an angle....and mine would trigger the low oil alarm. Just filled it up a bit more and alarm stopped for me. Hope it's this easy for you!

IIRC the colors are black and black/white, should have bullet terminals on them.

The wire that connects the alarm sensors on my '88 Formula is tan w/ blue tracer, and they are wired from the transmission, oil, and water. I don't remember if the drive reservoir has a low level sensor. Hope this helps. BC
I assume you have TRS Drives and not Bravos |

Jon .....its got to be the water temp or oil pressure senders ..as stated should be tan/blue ...they are all tied together ....the oil pressure alarm is mounted on the Block down by the oil filter pad on port side of motor ...water alarm on top of motor on intake manifold or thermosatat housing ..the motors should have seperate alarms ......m
