PC 34 A/C Question
 

My new to me 1995 PC 34 has a Marine Air air conditioning unit. I turn it on, it blows cold for maybe 15 seconds then shuts down. It looks like it is water cooled, but the cooling lines are not getting water so I'm thinking there is a pump somewhere I need to prime?

There is an AC water circulation pump located in the bilge. This pump HAS TO run to circulate water through the ac unit, otherwise the safety will trigger and shut the unit down. You should hear the pump come on when you turn the unit inside on.

If most of the bilge equipment is original, you should find this pump mounted to the starboard side of the main stringer between the front of the motor and the step plate. Look for a thru hull fitting w/ball valve going to a strainer then to the ac pump. You should also have another thru hull/valve/strainer for the genset.

The one pic shows the original version prior to the complete overhaul, pump is on the side of the stringer. Since I added new thru hull motor pickups and large strainers, I relocated the ac strainer and pump to the forward bulkhead and under the folding step.

I don't know if mine's been reworked or not. It doesn't look like anything was ever mounted on the side of the stringer but I only see one strainer going to a pump by the generator.

Take a few pictures and post them or email them to me. More than happy to help, as I've redone every inch of mine.

Check the cabin bilge for the pump/strainer. That's where it is on my 37.

Fixed! I popped off a hose to the unit, could hear water gurgling through the lines. Put the hose back on, started the A/C, ice cold air in the cabin. Yay!

Congrats!! Did you ever find where the pump was located? Just curious.

That unit really cools off the cabin nicely doesn't. Even with the 100+ days we have had, it sure is nce to slip down into a cool 72-74 degree cabin.

Yes - I just found it today. It is under the stairs that lead to the cabin. I looked there before but I didn't notice the carpet has a cut in it - lifted the carpet, found an access cover, there was the the A/C pump and the bilge. The A/C was running and the pump was running so I'm sure that's it.

I fooled around with the controls and actually have mine cooling down to 69 degrees! BRRRRRR ....

Alright now ......none of that !!!! :drink:
