Bravo One - Shower

I have a 292 fastech optioned with twin 6.2L motors and Bravo1 drives...should i spend the money and invest in outdrive showers?

Typically I run in the CT river where there is the occasional no wake zone so I feel as though the drives get a cool down period here...i have a short run in the ocean but it only lasts 10 minutes...does this make a difference?

should outdrive showers be a priority?

I installed them on my drives. It can't hurt to keep your drive oil temps a little cooler. Plus there's the bling factor.

I would I used the ones from Wicked Marine they were the tube style. They dump a lot of water on the drives.

I installed the Simreks after my first fluid change was kind of dark. Now it goes in and comes back out nice and green.

i was thinking of going with the simreks...they seem like easy installs.

My 292 has the Latham steering setup. Understand that all I need is the shower hoses that screw into the top of the motor brackets?

Bodi 08-24-2010 10:59 PM

Go simreks. You won't be dissappointed

Was this a kit or did you purchase misc parts from an automotive store?

I am pretty sure those are Latham drive showers.

4mulafastech 08-25-2010 12:30 PM

Yep, it is a Latham kit that threads right into the center of the Latham top plate steering mount. It has a really nice pick-up that you mount to the cavitation plate. I have hung out over the swim platform while on plane (during very calm conditions!) and it completely hoses down the top of the drive. Water sprays out all sides between the plate and top of the drive.

what does everyone recommend...latham or smirek?

J.B. Marshall 08-25-2010 02:23 PM

I am very happy with the Latham, but it's the only one I have experience with. Latham was very helpfull with quick turn around on threading my plates so the showers would fit with their hardware.

FRMULTR 08-25-2010 03:35 PM

I am running the Rex Marine showers, with the dual pick ups. Costs a little more but gives you twice as much water dumping on the drive.

thirdchildhood 08-25-2010 03:39 PM

Has anyone done a comparison with a drive oil temperature gauge to see if a shower does actually lower oil temp?:food-smiley-007:

FRMULTR 08-25-2010 03:48 PM

If you look on Rex Marine's website, they have some good information, and interesting pictures of their drive showers.

Mine were only like 200 if I remember correctly. You could also have one of your friends hang off the back and use the transom shower.:evilb:

200 each? or combined? i keep seeing 145-175 each which is outrageous for what it is...just my opinion.

no i am a diy boater...if you cant appreciate that then you have issues. (i take your comment personally)

instead of putting money into the pockets of greedy companies (esp ones that over charge) i rather keep the money and spend it elsewhere (a fix that i cant handle)...

again the products these companies push cost mere dollars to produce...its sad really. the aformentioned showers should cost 50-75 to buy.

im 23 years old if i can shave cost of ownership i will...just my 0.02. sorry for getting defensive.

I must agree with Moses

Shop prices compared to actual manufacturing cost is INSANE!

If run a factory that build high-end training equipment (http://www.x-force.se) and have a bit experience when it comes to actual manufacturing costs.

A transom basic transom shower that is "only a bent pipe with holes" would cost as little as $40-50 a piece to have made if you buy 10pc. or so. This is at random workshop.

If you look at china for manufacturing as the big companies do, you can basicly take raw material price and ad a few percent for manufacturing.

Will probably end up with $25 a piece all stainless.

I used to work in my schools mechanical workshop when I was studying. Free machinery and good deals on material.

A while I was making "dump valves" for guys turbocharging their cars. Something like this, but not as fancy looking: http://www.energizedcustoms.co.uk/images/RE-CIRC007.jpg

They cost me approx $10 in material and I made 5 in an evening easily. Sold them for 1100 swedish crowns, which equals $160. People told me it was a bargain. Boy are consumers stupid :)

High quality boat parts are made from high quality SS and are polished and precision. Don't be so cheap.......:coolcowboy:

Hey sorry if I offended anyone,You probably have more time than me.I work 80-90 hours a week and I can make more doing what I do in the time it will take to make drive showers.
Understand your situation but its not just bending the tubing its placement of the holes will homemade ones work as good maybe,Its it worth the cost of a drive if they don't thats for you to decide.

i work in the aerospace world...dont give me the high quality material bit. i know what the material is and how much it costs. (almost nothing for a well resourced company)

sorry for getting defensive...i might just make the plunge, just cant wrap my head around the cost esp for something so simple. thanks.
