Anyone know why this hasnt sold - 292

See link:

http://www.boats.com/boat-details/Fo...tech/115124141

Seems like a steal...surprised no one has picked it up yet...Anyone know anything about the boat.

VtSteve 08-25-2010 08:42 AM

There are a lot of the 292's for sale, this is one I was going to check out.

http://www.boats.com/boat-details/Fo...tech/113316201

I think many are either looking for a bit smaller with single power to start with, say a 25/26, or something bigger than a 292, say a 32/33/35. In the end, the cabin isn't what I would want.

Doesn't seem to be a popular model.

1MOSES1 08-25-2010 08:52 AM

^^^your link seems like a good deal too. i guess it depends on personal budget...

all the equipment and mechanics are the same for 2003 and newer minus livorsi guages, and helm layout...

depends on how much you are willing to dish out for a newer slightly less used boat...lower motor hours.

39.9 just seems really low and it includes a trailer.

VtSteve 08-25-2010 09:01 AM

Looking at a $200k new build price on a 292, first thing I notice is no enclosed head :angry-smiley-038: Not another one of them for me, ever, especially in that price range. Quite a huge drop in prices on this model for a newer boat. I suspect Formula's funky loans had something to do with the problems.

Not in the position this summer, but the 292 would be a good fit for me. I'd prefer a better cockpit/cabin layout, so the 290SS would be a much better match. Dontt particularly like to looks though.

1MOSES1 08-25-2010 09:05 AM

Boat manufacturers dont like to throw in enclosed heads until 30+ ft...with good reason, the cabin would feel tight on a 29 ft especially in a fastech with a stepped hull

they are nice starter boats but idk why prices dont seem to be holding strong. it seems like even the baja's are holding better value.

88242LS 08-25-2010 01:02 PM

unpopular graphics and seems like formulas on the west coats dont sell well,

I.D.C.E. 08-25-2010 04:25 PM

Did I miss where the hours were listed? Also what's the reasoning for the covers to be off the engines? That's a great deal if all is good on it and personally I think those are clean graphics.

Mine 06 292 6.2s with trailer...got offered 40k on a tradein last Sat.For 40k I will run it for three more years and part it out.
The escape program hurt but thats not all of it 30 to 100 k price range is a working man or small business owners price range. They are not buying the guy that can afford a 200k boat right now is not looking at a 292.
Plus most who have them want to go bigger /faster hence the low prices. But ultimately its going to hurt Formula bad.Are they even building Fastechs?
Its really not a bad boat you can fix the planing problem for about 2k.Get rid of the cast iron exhaust.Putting Aluminum on takes 270 lbs off the back of the boat.Mine comes out of the water pretty quick now.I hate that they did not make hydraulic steering standard but my fault for buying it.

Pantera was not who offered me the 40k by the way. That was on another boat.Joe has offered to help sell mine but house is almost paid off so need to wait another year.

Back4More 08-25-2010 07:16 PM

Those 2 would most likely sell better with trailers.

Was looking at a 35 EX would have done the deal if I was offered 60k.
But did not happen so I wait a little I really want a 36 pantera.Called Pantera a few weeks ago on a Friday about 3:00 pm and the owner (Pepe) answered the phone. Not too many boat companies can say that.

Thought of something today. The boats that I /us are looking at most of which will still be there next year. Are going to depreciate more dollar wise than our boats. If a 292 losses 20% value in the next year thats only about 12k a 200k boat loses 20% its 40k.
I feel the price for used 292s has bottomed so in a year or two we will be in a better position.

turboz67 08-26-2010 08:02 PM

I have an 06 292 with bayport graphics. I added 383stoker scorpions, had the props relabbed and added 280kplanes. these three aditions solved every problem with the 292. I will always stay with formula, if I get a next boat it will be a 353. Are they pricey boats? yes they sure are, but the fit finish is second to none against other boats. Mine still looks as new as the day i got it. Look at the paint and cockpits on other boats. Baja's paint starts fading after the second season and we wont even talk about the cockpit. Any way they might not be the fastest boats but they are one of the best.

Splitdecision271 08-26-2010 09:02 PM

There is a video on YouTube of the Velocity 292 running on the Delta in CA. I believe he posts over on Speedwake.com too. I absolutely love my 292. Yes, I wish they were made with the 280 K planes rather then the Bennetts but a nice solid boat that will run hard and straight all day.

Expensive Date 08-26-2010 09:35 PM

For what they are yes they are a great boat. For some reason though they have gotten a bad rep.
What I want is more something I can run hard in the ocean. And Formula while being a great product is not that boat.

Not listed give them a call. But I would not be too concerned about the hours on stock small blocks. With regular oil changes they can go 500 hrs easy. And new drop in ones that include everything can be bought for about 8gs each.Ot you could save some money and put the 5.7s in and only lose a few mph for about 6k each.

Thanks man, good to know regarding the total hours and price to re-power!

88242LS 09-05-2010 08:20 AM

stock small blocks should run alot longer then 500 hours

4mulafastech 09-05-2010 08:44 AM

I agree. Talking with MerCruiser they said 6.2's with proper maintenance 1500 hours is possible.

88242LS 09-05-2010 08:54 AM

Maybe,But I would rather be on the low end of the scale at 500 than have someone spit a rod out at 850.....and you said.
Too many people think boats are scrap at 200 hours the five year old boats with 90 hours on them scare me more.Worst thing you can do is let an engine sit.

No kidding, that is a killer price for an 07 and probably has some formula guard left unless it is a repo.

Digital Jams 09-05-2010 10:07 PM

IMO you would have to be pretty anal to get to 1500 esp if you are running in the ocean hard. I mean I wash my John Deere after each cut so I am anal with this stuff :drink:
