2000' Formula Fastech 382 - buying tips

Forum,

I am considering the purchase of a 2000' Formula Fastech 382 with 500EFI's which shall if processed shall more than likely be bought sight unseen through the internet.

I am seeking some advise, words of caution, things to look for and general comments. any responses to points below much appreciated.

- Things to look for, area's of potential deterioration?
- Expected performance from 500EFI's ? cruise/max speed?
- sleeping in cabin, would it sleep 4 adults?
- storage for anchors, lifejackets etc etc, where do you store this?
- Transport dimensions on trailer, anybody know this for transport quotation purposes?
- issues after transport, any experience in hull flexing, cracks etc, precautions that could be taken during transport?

Any other comments??

I am looking at sending the boat to Australia which from my searchs I dont believe there are any Fastechs in the country?

Thanks

Can't tell you much about the transportation aspect but, I would say they are great boats. If it's been taken care of,there should not be to many issues with deterioration but I would get a survey done if possible. Depending on the hours, the motors may need valve spring work done. If the boat does not have ext boxes the top speed will probably be around 70, 72 mph, and cruise at 50 or so. Hope this helps a little, I am sure someone else will chime in. Good luck.

at the very least get a survey done, happens alot, people buy a boat sight unseen with no survey, then their back on here posting how somebody screwed them:eek:

Amen to that...SURVEY. A buddy just bought a late model, sight unseen, Velocity at a steal. Looked good with highly detailed pics and ran like a champ. Went to put on trim tabs and yep, deteriorated transom. YMMV

I just sold a 2002 382. Boat is 8.5 wide, about 43 ft long on a trailer. With trailer will weigh in between 13,000-15000 depending on fuel. Great boat and speeds will be low 70's.....maybe 75 with boxes. (mine was Procharged and ran a best of 98 at one time)

I also bought mine sight un-seen and GET A SURVEY. Storage compartment under the rear seat held my cockpit cover, wipe-down gear, and a few other items. I kept 8-10 life jackets and 8 dock lines in the side compartment on one side, 2 anchors/ropes, 4 fenders, throw cushion, and some floating noodles in the other side compartment. (side compartments run all the way forward of the cockpit).

As you can see from my avatar I own a 2000 Fastech w/500 EFI's, I have 400 hrs on them and have not had a problem just regular maintenance.
I love the boat and would own another in a NY minute. However, as other's have said get a survey done by someone who know's HP boats, you are making your own problems if you don't.

Good luck,

Bye the way, I am willing to sell mine if interested.
