Underwater Lights (LED)
 

Anyone have any experience or knowledge of any brands of these?

I keep finding OceanLED when I do any searches.

I am interested in doing underwater lights, at least under the swim platform on my boat, but probably around the entire rear as well.

A few companies seem to have new ones that can change colors... this is likely what I would want as well.

I would appreciate any feedback good or bad.

Try a search in the General Discussions forum. There have been several threads there.

Lumitec makes a great product and are a fraction of the price of the Ocean LED w/ comparable performance.

I have the Sea Blaze 3 on my 353 and they look great.

I totally agree ! I put 3 of them on my 311. you can see them approx. 50 feet back in clear water.
There are 8 LEDs per light .... 4 blue and 4 white .... you put blue on by itself or white (which almost looks green underwater) or both blue and white which gives you a H.I.D. look .... which is very white.

We had 5 Trojan 10m lined up with OceanLEDs and mine .... The 311 prevailed ..... by approx. 10 feet.

The light is made in USA and is a lot more rugged ... it has a metal housing where the OceanLEDs are plastic.

These pictures were taken by a cell phone .... and the water wasn't exactly clear ..... it was approx 9pm .... these are just blue only ....

They had their biggest/brightest lights on sale for 600 per. The display they had set up would literally blind you when the lights came on.

I talked ot the guy for awile, they were a bunch of boaters with electronics background who saw a need for a better solution to what is offered now.

I think they got it right, The lights are very solid feeling, all stainless steel, billet cut out, all the LED's are matched in each light to have the most even, bright light possible. He had tons of pics of his lights in various water conditions and they looked awesome.

I don't work for them and are not affiliated with them in any way, I also can't give anymore info then what I got from talking to the guy. IE no first hand info. But they seemed like the best thing price/performance wise I have seen so far. So it is definitely worth checking out as an option for someone in the market for underwater lights.

The Shadow-Caster co-inventor is a good friend of mine (we both are mechanical engineers). We used to work for same company and we did military electronics so they are very well engineered and designed. Like macjazzy said, they didn't make them to get rich, they wanted a better light and IMO they did it. I am not affiliated wih them in anyway, just friends wih the guys. A wakeboard forum bought like a dozen underwater lights and did a scientific study . I don't want to step on any toes, if allowed i can post a link to it. Interesting reading.

Has anyone seen red underwater lights?

SC (and some others) have red lights and they are actually kinda cool, lights up the water and give s blood like eerie glow to it.. Not quite as bright as blue or white because the red wavelengths get absorbed more by the water but still kinda cool if that color matches theme of the boat.

Do you know of other companys than SC? Some maybe with pictures. My buddy has a 31 red and wants to do underwater lights, blue looks awesome but doesn't match. Red would match but is hard to find and might not be worth it if you can barely tell. I told him do Blue because at night, you cant tell what color your boat really is.

Happy Hours, I would like to check out the link you mentioned. Being as it is for a wake board forum, I don't think it will step on any toes here. Not to mention LED underwater lights are a hot subject here, so the more info available the better for people to make choices.

I have a video on you tube. If you type in formula 292 fastech there is a video of my 292 running at night in NJ . At the time i had an A12 ocean led now I have 2 more on there for a total of three.

Read all the way through that (very long thread) seemed like a ton of b!tch!ing and complaining, hte guy running the test could not seem to get his crap together. At the end of the thread there is a post that give another link for the results, and its a dead link.
So that kind of sux, anyway, Happy Hours, do you remember what the summery of the test results were?
Who did they pick as brightest/bet light of the ones they tested?

I am sorry, I thought I saved the link to the results , you are right, link seems busted. The guy who did the tests "bought" all the lights with the agreement he would keep the ones he liked the best and return the others. Kinda a clever idea to get to try all the lights out. He kept the Shadow Casters.

For blue lights, what lumens should i consider. I am in Mass where the water isn't the clearest. Any suggestions?

As many as you can afford. :-) Water (especially dirty water) adsorbs a TON of light.

trying to do a follow up for anyone that I can find on the forum asking about underwater lights.

I went with Abyss Lite and got 4 of the 1560 RGB color changing LED lights. They are on the back of the boat, one on each side of each drive. My boat is a Formula 400ss.

I can tell you that the water here at my lake is one of the dirtiest I have ever experienced... It is FAR from clear.

The lights work AWESOME so far. VERY VERY VERY bright. So bright, that they actually shine up and OUT of the water much more than I expected. I put them as low on the boat as I could. Almost all of the colors work well. Red is probably the worst, but it still works very well in my opinion.

Granted, I have not had the luxury to see how underwater lights look out in the ocean or clear water, but I am happy with what I have here on my lake, so I can only imagie that it gets MUCH better.

I will get some pics up in the Formula section next week. Heading up to the lake tonight.
