353 with 700s?

Came up in conversation the other day and I was told they made one with 700s...anyone know if this is fact or fiction?

t500hps 12-04-2010 05:34 PM

I seem to remember they made a 382 with 700's and it only ran around 96.

Here is an article on the 382.

Formulas 382 pace boat/ poker run boat with the Terminal Velocity paint from last year has 700's and I believe #6 drives. I saw it was for sale at a dealer up north. Jeff Wurl

A guy up here in RI had a 382 with 700's.....................not sure what year. Don't know what the paint scheme is called but it was the one that's mostly orange on top with the lightening bolts. I know he said it went in the 90's somewhere, don't remember what the actual top speed was. Unfortunately it burned to the water line last summer just south of Narragansett Bay..................something related to a fuel pump or fuel line is what I heard. Luckily the owner got off the boat without any injury. Nice guy and a really nice boat. He was out on it all the time..........running between the bay and Block Island.

guess no one knows anything......the 382 is a bit of a pig but the 353 should have been alot faster with 700's. Loved to hear the specs if one was made but Formula is probably too conservative to have even made one.

Never done as far as I know.Back when the 700 came out I asked about doing one.The answer was a strong NO.

Thanks!

This is one of several examples where I think Formula has missed the ball in providing customers what they are asking for.

The "factory direct" crap they have going on now was just dis-continued by Fountain.....guess it didn't work so well!!!!!

An old example: In 2000 a local guy wanted a 419 with twin staggered motors...they wouldn't do it. He then asked for a new boat with an un-cut transom and empty engine compartment....they wouldn't do that either.

I assume he went another direction?

There was a guy on here that bought two 700s/nxts and put them in his 382. I think his name was PlanetWarmer or something along those lines on here.

He ended up buying a 42 Tiger (might have been the last straight bottom they ever built). Couple years later sold it and went boatless for awhile......this was a guy that had just sold a top gun!!!

Yes, but the factory built a couple as well.

http://www.jameslist.com/advert/2236...la-382-fastech
and there there is the 2009 Factory Poker Run boat and probably a couple more I missed.

I don't think they did 353's with anything more than 600's from the factory and more knowledgeable folks than I can say better but believe the 353s with 600 ran the same or SLIGHTLY better than the 700 382s top end wise.

No price on the middle one but the first and last are dreaming if they think they will get even close to that.

I got the same answer when I asked.

How about whippled 525's in a 353?

I'm sure they're around somewhere.

What do they run in top end?

GL@PBC 12-08-2010 03:31 PM

Worked for a Formula dealer for 9 years, the largest engine package they offered was 600s in a 353. 700s were only available in the 382. They never liked offering any "custom made boats", even tried to charge more for an all white Fastech because it interrupted the usual swing of things. Go Figure!!!

I hear ya about the all white thing, what's up with that.

Those kind of prices on the 382s with the 700s just don't make sense for me and I like Formulas
