New Cabin Carpet .....353 Fastech

I have a 2005 353 Fastec. Has anyone replaced the cabin carpet in a similar model? It really looks like a ***** of a job! The existing carpet wraps under the bench seats, (that do not come out easily by the way).

Any hints on where to buy new carpet and how to get this done (without getting glue all over the interior) would be greatly appreciated.

I want to go with a little bit darker grey than what was installed from the factory.

Yep...pain in the azz!! I had a professional install it for me while I had the interior out, but I did help remove the old carpet. The seats come out pretty easy. You just have to find the hidden screws in between the seats and underneath. Take the seat cushions out first, you will see it's not that bad.

Carpet, I went the factory route, but I'm sure someone in the know would be able to point you in the right direction on what type to use. The glue that is holding the original down...Well good luck with that. About a 4 hour job between the two of us scraping the old stuff off, oh yea, what a mess too!

I replaced carpet in my 400 ss. Fortunately, Formula uses a a smooth gel coat liner so the old glue can be removed with a lot of acetone. Going the factory route, in my opinion, was too expensive. Talking to Kerry Davis there, Formula uses a rubber backed carpet, with differing patterns, depending on the year. I ordered my carpet from Corinthian marine carpets. They used to be r&r textiles that made the aqua mat carpets used in most offshore cockpits. Another good place to check is great lakes skipper the marine overstock liquidator. They both will send you carpet samples and sell by the linear foot. so that you can pick the right one for your application. Maximum role length so as to not ship freight is 8 feet. Hope this helps

Here is a link to the project that I did couple yrs ago. I needed to replace the carpet and there for to do it all, I had to tear out the cabinets.
Gave me a reason to upgrade the interior. I am not knocking Formulas product (there carpet), I think Formula is the best. But, they have many of there products custom made just for Formula. The only way you can purchase the same carpet that Formula uses is to buy it from Formula.

OEM Sintec Industries(Georgia)Mfg of Slate Serene Custom for Formula only.Cost from Formula ($8.00/sqft)10x12 needed.

Tech support suggested I go to local carpet store and get something simular and cheaper.
This is what I came up with and I like it better:
Mohawk Wunduwave #1182 Color Cachet-Color #959 Timberwolf (3.50/sq.ft)

Amazing work! I can imagine the hours you had invested in that job.
Thanks for the info.

Don't want to interfere with y'all talking about this project. It looks like you may have your answer.

Seems like if y'all have addressed this issue you may have had the thought cross your mind to have the floors coated/surfaced and install snap in carpet?

I have a Nordic Rage and would be curious how involved of a project it would be to do snap in carpeting.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Interesting thought! I am going to look in to that. We are strictly day boaters and I would like the functionality of snap in carpet over the wrapped set up from the factory. Sure would be easier to clean.
