Bravo Gear Ratio

Interested to hear from the other 292 owners on what gear ratio you run in your Bravo 1. I'm looking to have some prop work done by BBlades and when I check my gear ratio, it is 1.65. I thought they were either 1.36 or 1.51.

Motors are the stock Mercruiser 6.2l MPI's.

I believe 1.65:1 is standard for the small blocks. IMO it is a good ratio for the 292. I can turn a labbed 28 pitch Bravo right at 5000-5100 rpm.

What props are you currently running and what is your maximum rpm?

I'm running the same props but just getting to 5,000 RPM's and 68-69 MPH on GPS. One prop is dinged so that may be having an effect.

I should clarify that I get up to 5100 rpm only in ideal conditions (cool air and low humidity). Typical hot and muggy summer day is 4900-5000 rpm. I am at 420 foot elevation.

Your numbers sound about right. If I was going to have any work done to my props it would be to take a little out of them so I could hit 5200 rpm (redline for the 6.2) in ideal conditions and 5000+ rpm in the heat of the summer. That may be worth 1 mph.

I'm also trying to keep in mind that I only have 38 hours on the motors and drives so I expect some better numbers once everything breaks in at ~ 75 hours.

Nope thats about it,but your ding is costing you about 100 rpms.My first set of props got nicked up had them redone boat would got to 5200 but same speed. You might get it to plane a little better with worked props,or you can just lighten it up a little in the rear like I did.It will make it come out of the hole a lot better. But you will not pick up speed without more HP.
