most will be around the 60mph mark, I have a pre fastech 271 with a 502mag and get 58 outta it, not the fastest but it handles the water really well and has a single, with gas going the way its going I've decided to keep it a little longer, I was thinking newer 292/303/312 but guess thats outta the question now

thats kinda what i was thinking.are these boats heavier then some of the other 27ft performance boats?seems like i was seeing people post higher speeds with similar size and setup.maybe the hull is not that fast?

Compare the weight of the 271 to most other boats in its size, and its usually 500-1000 lbs more.

Fastech 271
Stock 502/415 saw 62 GPS
Rebuilt to ~ 575-600 HP saw 71.5

I ran a NON stepped SR1 271 with a 454/385 and it saw 60 mph, so the step on the boat is more marketing than anything else.

what i the reason for the extra weight?is this a good thing or bad?does it help with the ride in rough water?

The ride is excellent, IMHO. The weight is how they build it and the material used. To the best of my knowledge, the bottom is solid fiberglass with no coring anywhere below the waterline. This adds a ton of weight, as fiberglass is a lot heaver than some of the coring material used (like balsa).

The weight isn't a bad thing. unless you are looking for the fastest 27 foot boat. Ride in a 271, and then ride in a bunch of other lighter boats, and listen to what the boat sounds like when you hit the water.

its more the weight thing, I'm sure blue print to blue print its a slower hull then say a 28ft Velocity/27 Fountain, Also keep in mind most Formula owners are very proud and to find a used 10/15 year old Formula is like finding a 5 yr old other brand, don't believe me?? spend some time ant take a look :grinser010:

Fastech 271 with a 700hp 540, 1.50 Bravo XR Running 84 GPS with a box stock 28 pitch Bravo 1 prop. The boat ran a best of 65 GPS stock with a 502 mag , 1.65 Bravo and a 28 pitch Bravo 1 prop. Jeff Wurl

My 2000 271 with a 502 runs 64 GPS on a cool day 62 when its Hot. I have two different props one for speed one for cruise, I also had k-Planes professionally installed. The ride for a 27 is awesome, Formula builds a solid boat made to last. Fit and finish is second to none. We like Formula so much we now own a 353 as well. The 271 is now up for sale any questions you can email me at [email protected].
