I purchased a 1988 292 SR1 last fall and put it in storage right after the sea trial. I would like to get new batteries but I'm uncertain of the size. I plan on using Optima batteries. Could some one tell be the correct Optima number? Thanks

Should be a 27 series size battery.From there you can decide how much you want to spend.Plan to get 2-3 years from marine batts.

The standard battery hold downs are for 27 series but you will need custom ones to run the Optimas.
