I'm a little biased, but that is a great starter boat. Price may be a little high. Bought my 97 FAStech for 26500 last July, w 502 , 500hp, 200hrs.

what would be a good starting number if the boat checks out

masi242 04-10-2011 07:42 PM

Nice looking boat, fresh water, clean, nice trailer. Have a survey done and start with low twentys, this could be a very nice boat.

Good luck

97FASTech 04-10-2011 07:45 PM

go to NADA and put engine and options in, I just did that on this boat and it came out avg retail around 23900. I would start about 21500. IMO. Oh and don't forget to check out the headliner.

fctyson0 04-10-2011 07:47 PM

the best thing is its in my home town

There was a late 90's 271 fastech in New York City on craigslist this winter with a brand new 496 magnum 425 hp for $12500. The guy needed money for his daughter's medical bills is what he told me. It may be still for sale. It was a few weeks ago. Search CL, you might find it. I don't think it had a trailer but at that price go buy one if it is still there.

that was a pile with bottom paint, that 271's a good deal, under powered with the 454 though, no bolsters mines a 93 and I would take 26 for it so thats a good deal if you don't mind those cpl things

Nice boat, but under powered for sure:evilb:

Mine has the 502mpi in it and I am in mid upgrade status now to the 598ci. Boat would run low 60's with 415hp b1 1:5 ratio right at 4800 4900rpms.

You can add bolsters and upgrade power later, I would buy it at $20k-$21k if it checks out and you are happy with 27'. JMO

yes i would like some more speed but im more concerned with getting the boat out of the water with a load in it.how much to do some mild upgrades to the motor?

There is all kinds of stuff you can do. I would start by have the top end worked, heads, intake, cam, exhaust, ECU re-mapped. The intake/exhaust are the biggest power robbers on that motor as well as the 502. Good engine builders have some tricks for the intakes, but not much from what I have read.

Look at the post a couple down in the Boat by region-Mid Atlantic treads, "Engine builder of Monty Cline" i think is what it is named. I talked with that gentleman about upgrading my 502. He said for $3500 he could boost my engine up to a little over 500hp. That is a good price, then you will need exhaust $1500-$2k and ECU re-Mapped for fuel/timing/AF.

Long and short, I would say $6k and you will have a good package with decent power that wont trash drives.

Someone else may know a little more than me about the 454s and can advise as well.

Hope this helps.

Brad

Take it over to Performance Marine in Bolton, get price for upgrade and pick up with Checkbook in hand. Seriously though for EFI stuff those are the guys to talk to in your neck of the woods and is totally work the phone call if you buy the boat and are looking for more power

fctyson0 04-11-2011 05:16 PM

went and looked at the boat today.it was even cleaner then the pictures.could eat off the motor compartment.one problem.boat is being held on verbal agrement for a day or 2.guy will not budge on price though.

Sounds nice....I wouldn't worry. In my experience people usually don' t stick to their word. If someone just said they were gonna buy it the guy most likely will never hear from them again.

Take money with you.....he will move on the price if you flash the cash!!!

It worked for me!!! Good luck!!!

598 Formula 04-11-2011 09:31 PM

I will sell mine if you are interested.
