trailer trim switch
 

this is a silly question but can anyone tell me: is the trailer trim switch supposed to move the outdrives down? i know they move them up.

Mine does on all my boats.

Before I got rid of it, it only went up!

I'm thinking they did that so you wouldn't use it as trim. I know on older models, the trailer switch would only go down to a certain point, then you would have to trim the rest of the way down.

long story short, my trailer switches dont lower my outdrives. i didnt know if that they are designed like that or my switches are broken. anyone know for sure?

i know its a moot point because my drive trim tabs raise and lower but i would like to fix them if they are broken.

trailer switches originally were often labeled "trailer/up"

I never owned or seen/used one that will lower drives

pretty simple really...it's meant to raise the drives beyond the trim limit for trailering!

i know but it says down next to the button and its a dual switch. but if you say its not meant to move them down then thats music to my ears. one less thing to fix.

To be certain, pull the plate they are mounted to, and see if there are poles that are empty on the switch. (missing wires, but hold down screws) that's what mine looked like. The switch will be wired, jumpered to the trim up switch.

thats the same as ive seen on the older boats

i think i found the answer to my own question.. i dug out the wiring diagram from my owners manual.

the trailer switches are only wired to operate the drives into the up position.
