Anchor question?
Ok...my Anchor Bit@#..... I mean my wife wanted me to ask....
We just got a 98 312 and the anchor box up top is to small for the anchor as well as it doesn't have a hold down clamp to keep it from bouncing around. What is everyone doing with their anchor's? Thanks Dave |

Since a 382 doesn't have an anchor locker, we us a mesh anchor bag, stored in the side compartment. Deploy over the side and pass the bag with the rode over the windshield to you deck person. Reverse process to retrieve. NOTE: This is NOT my boat in the picture...

Cool.....my anchor bit@# thanks you!

how the heck does that thing work? after reading their site im a bit confused.
you tie the line to the cleat and drop the bag overboard? or leave the bag flopn around the deck? |

I have a 271 w/o an anchor locker too!! I put under the rear bench seat, it fit nice on top of the anchor rope and i have an older fender/bumper on top so it stays snug when underway. I throw it over the starboard side, let it drop, and back up until it grabs. This better than trusting someone to walk across the bow with it, especially after a few drinks!! good luck.

I keep three anchors on board. Small medium and large. The small I use for when I have the bow up on the beach to keep me strait. The medium I use for when I am floating and there is little or no wind. If I am dropping for a while were I am not going to be keeping an eye on the boat I drop the large one. They all stay in the side compartments with all the fenders and what not. It can be a PITA getting the large one up on the bow with out banging it off stuff. I ussually just let others get there first and raft off them. :D

I had a 312 and kept the anchor in there til I got in rough water one day...beat the hell out of the inside of that compartment. After that (and on the 382 I bought next) I kept the anchor in the side compartment behind me. I would hold the anchor in my right hand and drop it where needed off the side of the boat...backing up as needed. As the rope was pulling out of the compartment I would hand a section to my wife on the bow who would tie it off where needed.
To retrieve, I'd have her untie the line and hand it to me at the helm (the excess line was running from the bow cleat along the bow rail and into that side compartment). I'd bump the boat forward collecting the line and coiling it inside the compartment right from the helm seat (facing backwards). Once i was above the anchor I'd just pull it up and set it on top of the coiled rope inside the compartment.....coiling it allowed it to simply un-coil when we set it the next time. |
I keep my anchor in the locker. It's a tight fit, but I use three peices of a foam noodle, the kind with the hole in the middle. One piece slides on each end to pad "rods" that stick out on either side. The other piece is cut open length wise and slides over the end of the anchor. I also have a piece of trailer bunk carpet that I still put behind it to protect things but this set up works good for me. Both my anchor and chain are plastic coated so that helps some too.

The Formula anchor lockers works fine. It has the ability to hold a one pound coffee can filled with concrete, and approximatly twelve feet of quarter inch line.
|
I used to keep a 20lb mushroom style river anchor in the front storage locker until we hit a big wave at LOTO one year and I saw it blow the door open and drop back in! That was enough to give me nighmares about what would or could have happened if it came all the way out of there!
Now I have a box anchor under the bench seat and a fluke in the side compartment! I use the front one for shaken Martini's!:drink: |

This is what we do. I keep a Fortress FX-11 anchor in the passenger side compartment. It has a shackle attached to it shown in the pic. I keep the anchor line with the steel eye in the bow locker which has a large stainless steel C-clip attached.
When it is time to anchor the wife gets on the bow and prepares some line out of the bow locker. I hand her the anchor which only weighs 7 lbs. She'll clip on the anchor line, drop it overboard and tie it off when there is enough scope. When leaving she will pull the anchor up while I position the boat. Dip the anchor a few times to clean, disconnect and hand to me. The soggy anchor line stays in the bow locker. If necessary I'll do any final cleaning of the anchor off the swim platform and put it back in the side storage. Works great for us. |
Its a fluke anchor, weighs around 12-15 lbs. Holds real well. We had 25 mph winds the other day and no problems.
|
Like many others, I use a box anchor, and store it in the side compartment, but I do pad it. I have boated on Lake Cumberland for over 20 years, and a box anchor is just about the only anchor that will hold there, it's a very hard lake to keep anchor.

Great topic somebody link it to Formula, lol this is and has been my only compliant on both Formula's, in the 271 theres not a ton of room so side anchor is a pain especially with company but oh well, haven't found a better way yet, For the life of me I cannot understand why there's not storage under the couches in the cuddy, that would rid me of all my space issues
|
I agree on the no storage under the couches.....There is a ton of space there going to waist.....
I kind of like the idea of leaving the rope in the anchor locker...I'll have to run that by the anchor bit@#.... |
I've had the cabin seats out of a 312 and there was surprisingly little space under them.......the round flare kits tubes wouldn't come close to fitting under there because of the grid system.

There is only about six inches under there. Then its the boat sides. |
we do the same as others have posted...leave it in the rear of the boat in a canvas bag
|
anchors should be bow mounted with windlass on all boats after all it is a safety issue. my fav is the plow style that sucks up tight to hull and you bearly see it

or a case of Icehouse and 25lbs of ice .......:drink: |
I have mine mounted on the front with a windlass, there is a speacially formed stainless steel piece round the front of the nose so the anchor doesn't damage the hull. I have the anchor deployed and retracted at the flick of switch...it's never caused me any problems. it sort of disrupts the look of the boat at the front but as it's so practical having it on the nose i can live with the looks.

looks great to me simple and quick to use, newer ones pull into the top of the hull you bearly see em
