Asking prices of 292s UP

Is it me or does it seem all the cheap 292s are gone, asking prices have been climbing. Not saying that they would sell for that, but I am not seeing any killer deals out there. The used boat market seems better than it did this time last year.

Funny you mentioned this. I was going to PM you and ask you this very question. It does seem to me that those incredible dumb prices of last spring are gone. Just this week I looked at Boattrader, and Boats.com and was VERY surprised at 292 prices.

My only guess.....is that all those "bank owned" and "repos" are sold, and thus you are getting more of the legitimate value of these boats.

I also think that the very high price of gas is helping with resale a bit.....since all the 292 have small blocks. Hope the prices keep rising!

What they would sell for would be different maybe but the market in my opinion is not going to drop anymore like it has.Formula has the sticker at 200k for a new on,even if it could be bought for 150k they are not going to be selling many.

I really don't know what I want I keep going back and forth.Want something faster and better in rough water but maybe not bigger. All the ramps by me are short and I like going different places don't want to drag something huge around. Then there is the upkeep of big blocks I am really thinking of having a 28 Pantera (Which actually has more running surface than a 292)built with the 400hp 383s.Very inexpensive to run and the same to fix.Lose a 383 worst case scenario its 10k lose a 525 its 30k.With that combo should see low 80s and be a very balanced boat.

Just wondering if anyone on here has sold a 292 recently.....

mattd7 08-14-2011 06:50 AM

Bought my 292 last December $ 35k 130 hrs was the best deal I thought in the country I thought I hoped it wasn't just the start of a declining market for these boats. I'm very happy to hear the prices have stabilized and I'm not gonna take a bath. Overall pretty happy w the boat

I've seen the same trend and agree with JayFan. It also looks like all the 2008-2010 hold overs that the dealers were sitting on are gone as well. Glad I got one of them.

Wow. That's super cheap. Good for you! I see a lot of 2003's are going for roughly 50K or so. You should sell it and profit 20K! :drink:

You are going to see prices start to come up for a couple reasons...the repos and steals are gone in the quantities that we saw over the last couple years. You now are getting into 2006/7-2010 used boats on the market when Formula just wasnt building a lot if ANY new 292's. That lack of supply on the used market will hold some prices up. The remaining boats that are 2001-2004 are just asking way to high IHMO. Think people might be in a financing spot that is driving the prices. Also these years are getting into that area where most banks wont lend due to the boat's age which may make it even harder to sell these 2001-2004 boats so will be interesting to see where prices go. I can't see where a 350 mag boat from 2001-2004 should have a anything higher than a 4 in the first number of the sale price. Clean 6.2 boat LOW 50's at best if pristine. There is a scorpion boat out there that is asking in the 90's---boy is he in for a wake up call.

Another thing driving prices up is that Fastechs are now pretty much made to order. Dealers don't have the inventory like they used to. So less chance of finding that 2010 or 2011 left over.

Plus, why would ANYONE buy a new 2010-2011 292????? They are listed roughly around 200K! They are nice boats and all.....but no where close worth 200K.

I think that is also a reason the 2005's-2008's are coming up in price a bit. :evilb:

Thats geat news this time last year they were all listed for over three years.

Really though the big drop is over they are pretty much, as all boats going to stay about were they are for awhile.Maybe a few percent drop a year but not like it was.

Might be changing my statement a little bit....Peep the classifieds for a clean well optioned 2007 292 with 350's good colors with less than 100 hours asking pretty close to 60. If it includes trailer and can move on price into the 50's I think you would be getting a good deal.

I saw this ad this morning. I personally think he is quite low on the boat. I don't think it has a trailer but he should be "asking" somewhere in the 75K range.....not low 60's. Especially with less than a 100 hours. JMO.

Every sale is different. Sometimes is not about value of the boat, but the value of the sale.

Owner took delivery of his new boat. This one has to go.

If you get your new boat for a good market value, you can let your current boat go for a good market value.

I heard the bottom has fallen out of the market for 2007 292's... :party-smiley-004:

Yup---and personally think he is right in line to sell it quicker but gotta figure your price out there door will be close to what he is asking once you get a decent trailer underneath it and if he is willing to negotiate a little
