302 Deck ?????
I am working on my 302 as some of you know and have not yet taken down the headliner. I am wondering if any of you guys know if the deck is cored or just solid glass. There is definatly wood around the hatches but it seems to end as soon as you get about 2 inches away from the hatch.

Jon:
They made two different decks, one with two hatches on the centerline and teak trim, and a second with 4 hatches, that they also used (I think) for the late 80's boats. I looked at a wrecked 357 with a hole in the deck, and don't remember any coring, but I was not looking for any either. |
Thanks Chart. Mine has the two hatches in the middle.

Hi Jon Rick G here . Mine as you know is a 1982 same deck as yours and the deck is cored not solid glass. The coring is not that thick . I replaced the head liner in mine last year. Both hatches have plywood around the opening for strenght and there is 4 tacking strips about 3 inches wide by 1/4 thick plywood Two run the lenght of the deck one on either side the hatches and one on either side of the outer edge of the deck. To redo the head liner you first tack the centre strip then do the outside pieces. It is a ***** of a job as it is done all above you. I would suggest you buy an electric staple gun or you will screw you arms up. The other thing I did was to add two reinforcing strips of 5'8 by 3 in wide plywood running between the hatches to add strenght. This was also a ***** of a job as it is done above your head. If have any nore specific questons call me any time 416-234-9778 . regards Rick G.
