October Boating???

So far October is making up for the rainy August in the Northeast. To little to late. Supposed to be a beautiful weekend, high 70's low 80's and 5mph WNW winds. Hoping to make it through to the end of October before calling it quits.

Who's still in and who's done???

thirdchildhood 10-07-2011 06:10 PM

I live in Michigan and never winterize until mid November.

Splitdecision271 10-07-2011 06:45 PM

Your brave. Oct 31st has been the latest I've been in.

There will usually be a couple of nights when I need to put a light bulb in the engine room but I have seen too many nice days pop up even in November.

mysweetone 10-07-2011 07:20 PM

I live in CT and will be taking my last spin this weekend... got pretty cold here last night.... 34*... I like the light bulb idea...! any suggestion for the drive since the boat is on the trailer?

drive shouldnt need anything...majority of the water should drain out.

thirdchildhood 10-07-2011 07:49 PM

Yes, the drive should self drain if lowered completely. Keep in mind though that my boat is garaged so it's always a little warmer in there.

the only concern you should have is if there is water in the gear oil...other than that, there is nothing to be done.

Hematite 10-07-2011 08:30 PM

I'm done for this year but I'm hoping for a better year next year.
We are currently in a nice stretch of good weather though, so I'm sorry the boat is not ready.

Texas

Normally will winterize in November, but this year I just winterized, due to low lake levels.

Splitdecision271 10-08-2011 06:23 AM

Hurricane Irene must have left a bad taste in a lot of boaters mouths. A lot of boats never went back in after being pulled. I know that we were never able to get a full weekend in. Saturday would be nice Sunday would be windy and overcast or vice versa.

I changed the oil in both motors last weekend. All that's left is to change fuel filters and run anitfreeze through. I change the fuel filters right before I run the antifreeze through. I pour a little outboard oil in the new filter and then run the engine, kind of self fogs the engine.

85 degrees here yesterday ,87 today taking advantage of the warm weather as well :drink: already out this morning and time for another tank of fuel

thirdchildhood 10-09-2011 09:42 AM

I had to work this week-end but will be on Lake St. Clair tomorrow. Temp is predicted to be 78*. That's why you don't winterize early. Only part time boaters boat from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I always get out once or twice in November.

dave krehbiel 10-09-2011 01:07 PM

I like to stretch my boating season as long as possible also, and will get out on a couple of warm days in Nov. But I have a heated garage to store it in so that helps.

shinglman 10-09-2011 06:27 PM

I will drag the season out as long as I can. Usually will end in December.

88242LS 10-09-2011 08:30 PM

what a day today we took a great run for lunch, and was out till just now, that's all for me unfortunetly gonna get to winterizing tomorrow

machloosy 10-09-2011 10:39 PM

Ran a great day today and actually left her at the marina. She'll stay ready to run until its absolutely necessary to winterize. Even next weekend here in CNY is supposed to be mid 60's...

fireguy 10-09-2011 10:50 PM

Had the best boat ride of this season yesterday.

Captain YARRR 10-09-2011 11:09 PM

I'm loving this late season boating. I'll probably call it good for the year first week of November.

Boating was pretty good on Lake Charlevoix this weekend!

thirdchildhood 10-10-2011 08:01 AM

I'm heading for Lake St. Clair in an hour or so (have to wait for the fog to lift!). It's supposed to be 78*. Might even end up at PIB. :) What sucks is that it's dark at 6:30 now.

Perfect Storm 10-10-2011 08:17 AM

Yesterday we had a beautiful day on Lake Erie... Clear blue skies and 77 degrees for our lunch cruise from Buffalo, NY to Port Colborne, Ontario. :drink:

I am going to winterize the Donzi next weekend. Probably leave the Formula in for another 2 weeks. Maine is cold at night but the boat is in the water so not worried about freezing at all.

Cold Sweat 10-10-2011 10:38 AM

Nice weekend, warm and sunny. Going out today for the last run. I hate this time of the year. SW Pa.

Lake Huron

Sunday was one of the best days of the year on Lake Huron.

Sunny and 77F. 4" waves at noon. Like glass by 2:00 pm.

Waiting for that second Indian summer before winterizing!

I love October boating, especially when the weather cooperates. We camped Saturday night and had the entire beach to ourselves. Temps were mid 80's during the day and 60F for the low that night. Great campfire weather. Pics taken with my iPhone. Grilling steaks on the river with the sun going down. Doesn't get much better than that!

Your end of the river looks great, wish we had a beach on our end.

It is nice. Been a few years since we have had so many good beaches with the river being up. What you see in the pics was at the bottom of the channel a couple months ago. Dredging this year made a big difference along with lower river levels. I just hope we don't have flooding like we have had the last couple years.

Lots of haze & fog this time of year. I might be done with the "big" lakes.

I'll be out Sunday on the bay. Saturday's going to be blowing 20 our of the SW. Sunday's supposed to be a little warmer and less wind.

Might head down to Conklin Island for the afternoon. All are welcome to join if your out.

Weather reports are calling for the 1st nor'easter of the season this Saturday. We were one of 3 power boats out on Saturday that we saw. Although extremely peaceful out there this time of year, it's time to call it a season.

I got sunburned yesterday!:evilb:

Splitdecision271 10-31-2011 04:51 PM

Got 6 inches of snow on Saturday. 25 degrees this morning. Winterized the boat on Sunday. It was time.

I'm hoping to get an early start next season. Right now plan is to be back boating by April. Want to be back out before my last ski trip to Killington over easter.
