anchor stowage
Ok, where do you guys stow your anchor? I have mine in a cloth bag on the floor in the cabin. Getting tired of stepping over it and don't want to look at it there. It seems too large to hide anywhere. Any ideas?
Also where can I get a bracket to hang my cell phone at the helm? I love to be organized! Toolman |
I have two anchors, the small one I keep in a storage bin under the engine hatch, the large main I keep under the floor in the ski locker. Have no skis to put in there anyhow.
I thought about getting one that you can take apart, stores in a bag, then it'll fit in with the other one, but I think it would be a pain having to assemble it before I can use it. Not good in an emergency. |
Dave - Does your boat (303?) have side storage bins? That's where I keep my anchors on my 382. I have two different size Fortress setups, each in a mesh storage bag.

Very helpful, Troutly - Shouldn't you be at the donut shop or something? :p

Damn C-spray!!!!!

I have side storage in mine that is were I put my anchor. Cell phone holders are no problem, just call up your service provider or go to your local cellular store and they should have one.

Trimmed the bottom cross bar of my Danforth anchor just a bit. It now fits under the rear seat (272 SR1) along with the rope , still on the plastic roll it came on new. I also placed a make shift mooring (80 lb concrete block and empty beer keg painted to match my boat) in my favorite cove where I hang on the weekends. Works out really great.

To change the subject slightly, I use a "box anchor" as seen in hot boat. It holds great and folds flat to easily fit under the back seat or in the side pocket. Comes with a mess and vinyl bag that holds it as well as the rode and chain.
I also have an undersized danforth clone that I carry during poker runs as it weighs a lot less.:D |
Originally posted by boatinbill ...Comes with a mess.... :) (You should know, Bill - you worked with me about, oh, well, um, quite a few years ago.....) |
I create my own messes (sp) all the time, thanks for the catch should have been "mesh"

A cleated river anchor good for rocks & sand in the bow locker (312) & a medium box anchor (man is that thing HEAVY!) in the bag under the rear seat. still plenty of room for stuff. I don't like "stuff" thats heavy or pointed to be anywhere around my glass or upholstery!! so the side pockets are out (that's where the sub's go anyway)!!

The cabin step on my 303 is the anchor locker,I keep two anchors, two ropes, flare kit,12 volt pump and everyone's shoes in mine.

Thanks for your replies, guys!
Secretformula, I'll try the step in the cabin too. My anchor looks too big for that space. What kind/size anchor do you have? |
I use a fare size Danforth anchor that I cut about an inch off each end of the crossbar. Another thought does your Kplanes retract all the way to negative, most 303s dont, I can tell you how to fix that and pick up 1 to 2 mph.

The Box anchor is the stuff! Folds flat, carrying case, and is a easy to set.just chunk it and tie off. no more worries. No more chain on my boat! Of course waiting for new motor so who the hell needs a anchor anyway!  :D

Secret...I'm interested as to how to check/fix the K-Planes. I have a 303 also. Thanks in advance.
|
Must be a clip in there to remove. I have never seen a K-plane that does not go all the way up:confused:

secretformula,
Looks like I should look to buy a box anchor. Do they hold well in rock, sand, silt, etc.? My K-planes are fine. I checked them with a straight edge and they do go negative. Just replaced batteries in the boat. What a ***** to get to. Love the boat though! Toolman |
Drop anchor on St Johns river tied a 32 & 26' together never moved! Always out at Crab Is. in Destin with tide pull.... just drop off Bow and it pretty much sets itself, never had one work this easy!
|
Atip for anchor rode chains I cover mine with an iner tube from my sons bike.
|
But thats whats cool bout this slide anchor is it dosent requirre a chain to set.
